Where are all the P-cars?
Before I bought my Jeep Wrangler, I saw many of them on the road.
I would make comments like "uh! I like that one"? or "Check the lift Job on that one" etc, etc..... Same thing when I bought my Tacoma, I saw lots of them on the road. A buddy told me "It's because you are thinking about them, now you acknowledge them on the road"...... OK so that made sense....But now that I want a P-car..... I CANNOT SEEM TO FIND THEM ON THE ROAD!!! And I commute in one of the busiest freeway in the state of California. I saw ONE the other day, and I followed the guy, just because I wanted to see the car. Yeah, that is not a good idea....ha ha ha! So are these cars really reaching extinction levels? Edit: I am talking about 89 and older cars. Benny

'89 and older are not that common for me either. The other day as I was on the 405 I saw a long hood doming up in back. I waited patiently for him to pass so I could take a look. I was in no. 4 lane and he was just crusin' in 3.
When got up next to me I looked over and saw a middle aged to older guy at the wheel alone. As he moved forward I could see the "S" on the deck. I'm thinking a 911S long hood, I must know this guy! Nope. But they are that rare to see that you think you ought to know the person as many events as I've been to. But, that's a long hood. Still, I don't see that many "bumper" cars on a day to day basis. I see one in a shopping parking lot about once a year. |

I still see them.
Saw a nice cream colored Carrera 3.o on the highway the other day, it had a for sale sign on it. And I thought to myself why in the world is that guy selling his? And then another bronze metallic 80s Carrera fly by on Forest Lawn drive the other night. So they're still out there, many of them. Probably not driven as often as the owners would like with so many people texting or putting on their make up as they drive. I mean these are the kinds of drivers that are out there on public roads. ![]() ![]()

Most are in garages or have been rear-ended by cell phone-yammering idiots driving SUVs.
Sadly. I love taking my P-cars out but honestly I'm paranoid about getting creamed each and every time I pull out of the driveway - even living where I live (rural). There are just getting to be too many idiots out there who don't pay attention and it's virtually impossible to keep anything nice anymore for long if you use it a lot (risk proportional to population density, which helps in my case). I definitely won't drive them into the city anymore. No way.

I agree with your view. If I had something that valuable it would be a moving target and parked hopefully in a garage so that it would not be targeted. I would still use it but not park in edgy areas. My 11 year old fast depreciating Boxster can be readily replaced. I dont worry much about it. Drive it anywhere, anytime, park it anywhere.
![]() Yes I agree Porsches are hard to find especially driving. Air cooled 911's are a collector's item. ![]() |

It has been open season here with the change of the weather. I have seen half a dozen impact bumper cars, a few 964s, 993s, and quite a few newer ones as well. No long hoods in the wild though.
I still drive mine everyday. I don't wish the car any harm due to impatient, or otherwise non-paying-attention drivers...I just like to enjoy my car every day that I possibly can.

I see air-cools regularly in the summer here & I often spy them in my travels - Miami, Sarasota/Tampa, Manhattan, Hwy 10 in Mississippi 3 weeks ago etc etc. Even Umbria, Sicily, Vienna . . . great to see them out.

hardly any in the desert. Saw a slant nose turbo bodied cab this morning, and the last time I saw an impact bumper car was probably a month or two ago.
then again, mine hasn't moved an inch since moving here a year ago :/

I rarely see any. I'll see an SC or 3.2 once in awhile. 996's and Boxsters come around too.

Hmm. Just saw an SC or Carrera in my office parking structure (visitor parking) yesterday as I was leaving. Saw another on the way home. I'd have to say I probably see them on a daily basis.

I think you are right. 10 years ago I'd see five on a Saturday. Now days I usually don't see any. I'm talking about real ones here, not 996s and newer. Lots of them around and those boxster thingies parked outside cafes.
It's quite amusing; they stare at the SC which is worth about a fifth of what they paid for their car. |

Within the past year I noticed a decline of air-cooled 911's in my area.
Now I usually just see them at the local PCA meetings or at C&C. Some of the nice ones I used to see have left the country ![]()
