1991 Commercial, what started your obsession?
I have always loved the Porsche turbo as long as I can remember, but while tooling around eBay I came across this auction and gave me a flashback of what solidified my obsession and lust for these cars.
There was a commercial in the early 90s featuring the new 965 and some of the hot colors they came in. I remember I guy showing his socks that matched the color of the car, another was ice cream (?) and I believe one was lipstick, and don't recall the others. If anyone has a copy of this commercial I would love to see it to recharge my dream that I will one day own one (even though my current is a "close" reproduction ![]() ![]() Love to hear y'alls stories as well (even if they have been covered here already)

when I was in my early twenty's I had a 63 bug and was really into hot roding it. a friend had a 63' 356 and handed me the tech manual and said "everything you are trying to do to that is cool, but this comes better that that could be from the factory"

That's awesome! Thanks for posting the vid! I could have sworn it was for the 965, but oh well still loved it. Keep the stories coming!

I saw my first 930 in 1980, it was white with 2 blue stripes down the middle like the GT 40, I tried to get up close to it but he was gone but the seed was planted that day, I knew I had to have one. Had major wood for the 87 930 and it took 22 years before I got mine, it's been 3 1/2 years now and I sit in the garage, its my man cave and where I smoke and I still can't believe its mine. Its parked beside my 71 E-Type Jag, both are red. People say "you must like red" I tell them "not really, just the way it worked out". I have 2 of the cars I lusted for when I was growing up, there are others that I'd like to own but I'm not a rich man but all in all I consider myself very lucky.

Mine started with the 917 and the movie Le Mans. Dad working at a Porsche dealership in Pa. didn't help either.

I talk about a 965 and people look at me weird. I have come to believe the US version was a 964 Turbo and the ROW car was a 965.

The first time I looked into a 911 engine compartment and saw MFI stacks, it was all over.

I saw an early 944 in the parking lot of a Walmart when I was 11. Triple black. Had the PORSCHE red reflector between the tail lights.
That was it for me. Sure, I'd like to say it was a 911, but for some reason I had kinda glossed over those. It was the black 944 that did it for me.

i dont remember the commercial but back in the 80s, i obviously saw them on the road and turned 16 in the 80s so was very aware of them and loved them. i also saw em in the movie Scarface and loved that Magnum PI episode where Sharon Stone is driving a 930 i think. i was more obsessed with the 308 because of Magnum which was my favorite show as a youngster. im still obsessed with the 308 but i have obtained at least one of my dream cars, the 911SC! Seeing the open, green, 356 convertible of the German Elvis copy, Peter Kraus parked in the street of downtown Munich way back in 1957, or so, got me hooked! I did not even have a car at that time or any prospects for one. 11 years later, and after a few years with 9 year old WV convertible I finaly got my first P-car:

G'day!

That 993 commercial is one of my very favourites.
All the credit goes to my Dad: ![]() We were a German air-cooled family from the get-go: ![]() ![]() A total of 4 sedans and a microbus then one day I came home and a '63 356B 1600 Super was sitting in the driveway. Holy mackeral! That started the obsession ![]() (In the garage....) ![]() So finally in 1998....I got my first Porsche - an '81 SC Targa. And the rest is history! ![]()

I recall an old thread about this very subject from years ago...might have been in the 930/turbo forum. While on bicycle, I followed a 964 turbo for about 3 city blocks in Sioux Falls, SD. That encounter (sight/sound(really percussion)/smell) was something I may never forget.

For me, it was in 1980, a friend gave me a ride in a 911SC. I could not believe a six cylinder could go like that. Considering I was driving a 1971 Vette with a 427!!!

It started with a '60 VW at age 16. I hot rodded it and had a great time. Then I ran into some guys who were into 356s. I fell in love with those cars. The character of the 911 is so different that it took a while to accept it as a Porsche. I just about decided 6 cylinders were maybe OK when the 924 came out. I still can't get used to the concept of a Porsche with a water pump.
I've had a dozen 356s, a couple of 912s, a 914, and a 911. For me, "Porsche" means a 356. I I love my 911, but there is nothing like driving the Speedster - at 1700 pounds with the engine I built it's like a go-kart. In November 2013 I will have owned it for 40 years.
