What have I done - P1800E purchase

Been looking at them for a while. The Wheeler Dealer episode pushed me over the edge. Tossed in a random bid on ebay and won. It's a 1970, perhaps not the most desirable year, but has EFI and 4 wheel disc brakes. It's a CA car currently in PA. Just waiting for the transaction to complete. Color me crazy, as if I need more projects :-) Can't seem to find a decent forum, course, no place is like PP.

NICE Brad! Never owned that model but did a '69 and '70 145S and LOVED them!

There's a guy here that works on those and knows a LOT about them - be happy to give you his contact info - even though we're in Florida and you're in Cal. - you never know - it could be helpful one day.

Let me know.....Baz

EFI on those is D-Jet, just like a 914, so I can help you out there.

Looks like you did well, congrats. I think you'll like it, they're not high performace, but fun and reliable. I had a 68 1800S and a 71 142E in college. Both great cars. The 142E was cool, since it had the 1800E drivetrain (fuel injected and 4 spd with O/D) and a leather interior from the 164 (the big Volvo of the time) in the standard 2 door 142 body.
They can be made to handle pretty well, think Konis or Bilsteins, some thicker sway bars, and some stiffer suspension bushings.
Good luck with it.

That's beautiful. I had several 240 turbos that I loved, turbobricks.com was a good resource for them but not the P1800E. Ask the guys at ipd.

thanks for the comments all!!

I have not received the car yet, but will for sure take more pics. I love the look of the car, seems to have a lot of Aston/Jensen influence.

I am excited about it. yeah, it wont be my old 911, and wont be a performance car, but it has lots of soul. Cant say that about many modern appliance cars.

The D-jet FI freaks me out a bit. Parts are $$$. Off the shelf injectors are 200 bucks or more each.

Looking forward to tinkering with it.

D jet is not so bad, works fine on my 914.

Megasquirt will have a solution that is much cheaper than stock, I would wager.

yeah, I have been researching that. With the 12x12 VE tables it looks like folks have gotten some additional performance and good driveability. It would also allow the use of affordable injectors. Unfortunately, things like adding the TPS, fuel rails, etc look like a hack.

I'd like to look into an ITB setup too :-)

FWIW, Beck/Arnley replacement injectors can be had for less than $60 each.

That is great news. Just did a search.

Some places don't explicitly show the B/A for a 1970, but do for a 1972. The Bosch number is the same for both years, so it should work.

Appreciate the info.
