It really is one of the happyist days
I sold my boat!!!:-) Its been three years of trying, with many close calls. Plus its going back to with in miles of where it was built near Brisbane Aus.
We have had it for almost 20 years, and many miles and adventures all over the South Pacific. Great memories but our life has moved on. Kids , House ashore, a couple of Porsches etc. Time to move it on to a new home ![]() ![]() A few days ago when the deal closed there was an earth quake in the Solomon islands. My first thought was tsunami, its his problem now. What a relief not to have responsible for it any more. And the buyer is more stoked than I am. Just had to share. Beautiful boat... I'm sure the new owner is going to enjoy it, too.
So where are the photos of some of the succulent fish you caught and cooked on it? ![]()

Goes to prove the old saying "two happiest days in boat ownership". You are having your second, he is having his first.
It is a nice boat though. I can't imagine not having a boat or an airplane in HI. Am I naive? ![]() G |

Did you experience any big seas with that boat? How much abuse can a boat like that take in terms of big waves? A video would be great but would settle for pics of BIG waves! But that would be impossible because you were too busy?Right?
Congrats on your sale. |

That saying is true for sure, very happy! We caught plenty of fish, biggest was about 60lbs. some sort of billfish caught near the equator on our way to Tahiti, lasted most of the way there.
We did sail a bit in the southern ocean above 40 degrees and did encounter really impressive conditions One giant swell on our way to the cook islands from N.Z. was huge but in very nice conditions broad reaching in 12/15 kts we carried the spinnaker and surfed the swells that reached 40'. When we arrived in Rorotonga they were still clearing the roads of debris from the swell of the decade. Here is a link to lots of pics taken last summer with a few videos toward the end of the album. brisk coastal sailing speeds of 10/12kts, with spurts on the swells up to 17kts, fun I have a few pics of rough conditions that I cant put my hands on, but they never really show it like it is. Aigel Its usually a hard 18/20 hour bashing upwind sail to get to Oahu from here, Makes the half hour commercial flight really attractive. There are very few private planes going inter island, I'll leave it to the pilots here to tell us why, lots of salt air around.
Cheers Richard PS nothing like misspelling a word in the title line where you cannot correct it. Color my cheeks red Last edited by tevake; 04-23-2012 at 10:29 PM.. |

Great looking boat, and pictures Richard. Thank you for posting.
I spent a magic couple of months years ago sailing those waters on a friend's Freedom 40. That's very close to heaven.

My pleasure Dottory; It really is a total change in reality to check out of the shoreside life and just cruise around sailing and living aboard for a while.
How was the Freedom 40 to sail. I've all ways been interested in the free standing rig on those boats. The wonders of carbon fiber. :-) I would think It is especially good off the wind and running with no shrouds to deal with. Cheers Richard |
