Wedding reception music

Give me your list of must have wedding reception songs... Thanks

Keeper of the Stars - Tracy Byrd (Our Song)

These arms of mine - Otis Redding (What I will be singing to the wife)

Don't have a clue to what else to add to the playlist, so help me out with your suggestions!

Live music?
If so, the band and the organizer need to get together and pick out what the
Bride and Groom (and friends) might like.
Some songs to consider are the "first dance" song.
If children are going to be present then a couple young oriented tunes. "I'm a Believer" a la Shrek.

I have always liked "Color My World" by Chicago for the Bride and Groom dance.
The songs should be recognizable to most of the attendees.
People are happy at receptions and like to dance, so pick out some good dance tunes. You know.... like I Feel Good/I Got You. That kind of stuff.

If you hire a band, have a table for them seperate for eating. They are animals.
Haha!

In college I worked for a caterer that did an s-load of weddings. I was a bartender.

Great gig, trust me.

So I have attended close to 100 weddings, which have run the gamut from BIL spinning records to DJs to live bands and even a number of "Big Bands" with horns/strings, the whole deal.

I always tell people, no one will remember the food or the place the wedding was held...a good band or professional DJ, coupled with an open bar are foundational building blocks.

After the wedding dance and the family dance, the best way to get folks on their feet (which is the important thing) is do a few kid dances first...kids, especially little girls, have no qualms about dancing.

Next get the old folks involved...when I was doing weddings that meant 40's music, now I thinking a mix of 40's, 50's and 60's.

By this time, everyone is a few Merlots or cocktails into the reception so, depending on what part of the country you are in, an electric slide or "Shout" gets every on the floor.

Oh, make sure to tip your bartenders.

I'm working on this now. For most people, a variety of 70's funk/r&b will get them dancing. We're going to do a mix of live jazz, live soul/r&b, and some recorded stuff. For some reason my bride to be doesn't want me playing bass all night. Go figure. I have to sub that out...

Recessional will be Pachabel's Canon by Hiromi. First dance will be "Just the Two of Us". Beyond that I haven't sorted that yet.

I'm playing a wedding in June with the Karaoke band I'm in. That should be a fun one, and the audience gets to participate.
