it's official! my neighbors are MORONS!

i got that uneasy feeling when they had a truck dump 9 yards of soil in their driveway. their front yard is a lawn and so is their backyard. where can all this material go? well, i had to do something on my roof, so i looked in their direction to take a look. the morons took made a 2x12 border all around their yard..they are building a 4-5' wide raised bed around the perimeter of their yard. they are using all of the neighbor's fences as the backwall of the planter boxes. i've seen this attempt once, and the fences started leaning almost immediately. our shared fence is the newest, but I built it..not a pro. i am not convinced i did the best job.

i talked to them just now and told them..what they plan on doing will knock the fences down. they are inviting fence rot too. they have a drip irrigation system laid out. the lower portion of the wall will be constantly wet.

great just great..my wife wants me to NOT release the kraken. she figures i told them..the fence comes over..it is on them.

i believe i will move soon. the market is in my favor.

If you built and paid for the fence and it is on your property, that is encroachment.

You can report to the city that they are building a structure that requires a retaining wall.

That's why some people live on acreages. Yes some people have no idea of what they do to others - it's called empathy or lack of it. Watch where u move to because you may be in for some surprises if u move. You might have to interview prospective neighbors to see what kind of people live there. I love our neighbors on one side and intensely dislike the others on the other side. Normally neighbors clear their plans with neighbors when it affects others fences. Your neighbors are not normal!

I live on 18 acres in Los Angeles for the same reason. People are so self-centered, they don't even realize what they are.

Are these the same neighbors who built the unpermitted bathroom that wasn't square?

Go find some rotted wood and show them what happens. Then show them an estimate to fix the problem. Make sure you mention, "This won't be 50/50."

After that you can offer them some form stakes even if you have to buy them.

This is why I do not want to mess around with fences at my place. I am planning on building a concrete block wall all around the property. Even though my nearest neighbor is about 150 yards away on one side and I've got nobody on the other three sides it doesn't really matter... I want the privacy. Plus the street is fairly major and I want a little extra acoustical barrier as well as a way to keep cans, bottles, candy wrappers and other crap ejected out the windows of inconsiderate peoples' cars ending up on my front lawn as happens now. Plus I don't really trust fences - they just don't last. The vinyl ones aren't bad but they offer no acoustical protection and are not much cheaper than building a CMU wall. And oh yes, it's gonna be baby poo yellow solely out of tribute to pelican.

baby poo yellow never goes out of style. its rustic to some, to others it feels like mediterranean douche, to others it lends itself to our deep rooted mexican culture here.

but the best............and its gonna be getting hot here soon and the perfect time to invite all my amigos over for a CORONA/LIME "lets mix some mud and build a mexican barbed wire fence out of broken GLASS!"

its simple drink mass quanaties of coronas while mixing mud. place mud on final course of block wall, place nice sharp broken shards uptight in wet mud..............and nobody will be climbing over yer wall..........EVAR!

Not just Mexican. I stayed at a place in Ecuador that had done just that.

Tell them to put a 6x6 wall up against your fence before backfilling. A thin fence, even if treated, will rot out in short order. Now a 6x6 that is treated will last many many moons since there is so much material there.

If the grade difference is more than 1.5 feet, then chances are the 6ft fence needs a retaining wall and a permit.
