Ticks.... a bumper crop
Anybody else in the north east noticed.
Never used to have them here till a few years ago but this year....holly crap....they're everywhere. We were helping the neighbors load some stuff on their trailer a few days ago (in a field) when we were done we stood around BS'n and started picking off ticks.......one after another (5 or 6 anyway). Wife was working in the garden today and got 2 on her. Just picked one off the dog..... ![]()

About 4-5 years ago, we had 2 really mild winters (no freezing at my house) here on the Gulf coast of Texas with plenty of rain. We had 2 years where they were horrible. I would search the dogs and our bedroom every night before bed looking for them. They'd come in on the dogs and then crawl up the walls. It was quite nasty. Fortunately, we've had a couple of really cold winters and last summer was VERY dry, so we haven't had any around for the last 2 years.
I like the mild winters, but if ticks are the price, give me plenty of cold winters and hot, hot dry summers.

Think that's the problem here.....was a real mild winter with hardly any snow.

Get some guinea hens to run around the yard, they do a great job of taking care of a tick problem, they also aerate and fertilize your landscaping
![]() My mom had a few at our place in Hubbarton, but the fishers kept harvesting our guinea hens..

Haven't had any, thankfully but I also nuked the entire yard with a double dose of Spectracide a couple of weeks ago and plan on hitting it at least once a month all through summer - last year there were too many ants, grubs and god-knows-what other kind of gross insects around. The last people to own the place before I bought it never believed in maintaining the grounds - I've put a lot of effort into cleaning it up over the last 12 months.

I dunno about you but a winter with no snow is just fine by me! I'm hoping for many more that way, no complaints here! Snow sux.

All organisms require a very narrow set of parameters to live in: temperature, water, food, and shelter. If you take away any one of these, they die. Ticks love weeds and loose ground cover. If you clear out your property (clean away leaves, brush, etc) then they can't live. I always treat my dogs with Frontline plus. It's the best.

Dunno haven't had any problems. And mow all the grass about 2" tall max. Seems to work. *shrug*

Luckily not problems here. I have to clear the developed portions of my property for fire prevention & haven't seen any ticks sofar. My wife & I just returned from a 4 hour hike in the usual chaperal & no ticks. Hope it stays that way.
