Outstanding. I'm impressed. I was bummed when you went to the all black look. I really liked the vintage and racey paint scheme that it originally had. I like the new green scheme too.

The car is awesome. You have a great command of the distressed look, and the car looks absolutely perfect, because it doesn't look perfect. It reminds me of what an ex-Kafer Cup barn find might look like.

Thank you for all the positive comments! Here are a couple of pictures from a recent road trip to LA for the VW Classic car show:

800 miles round trip, plus several 100mph+ blasts down the freeway to show off for buddies, and not even a hint of a problem. I checked the oil a couple of times, just out of habit, but that's about it. And did I mention 75mph up the Grapevine? What a contrast to what this car did in the past!

I'm taking it out to its first autocross with the Subaru engine this weekend, Sunday at Mather Field in Stockton with SCCA. I'll hopefully get some video, and maybe even a picture or two of it lifting the front wheel!

Very nice craftsmanship. What did you use for the carpet? Is the scoop working to keep the temps in an acceptable range?

That's some indoor/outdoor carpet that I got at Home Depot. It worked well because it has a thin rubber backing, so it was easy to cut without creating frayed edges, and it doesn't require binding the edges afterwards.

Unfortunately, I starved it for oil on that run, and spun a rod bearing. I'm considering rebuilding it with a dry sump this time, because this is the second oil starvation engine failure I've had. I'll post engine rebuild progress pictures as soon as I get to it.
