What kind of wife.....

do you have in terms of your wanting to buy a car to replace what you have had now for 2.5 years? For instance I am looking at a 2007 Cayman Base and have had my Boxster base 2.5 years and put 12k miles on it since. I have just put new tires on the Box because 1) it needed new tires and 2) I don't like to sell a car with worn out tires.

I have offered to buy her a Lexus(used) to replace her 2002 Camry. She turned down my offer. I am enjoying the Porsche brand.

Why do I like the Cayman?
- warmer in winter
- safer as there is more metal over my head
- less chance of imsb failure
- it is newer

I admit I am a bit of a car junky. I like a nice car and like to upgrade.
Am I being unreasonable? Do you have a dream wife who in these circumstances would say "it's your money honey you do what you want!"

My wife has been trying to talk me into buying a 996 Turbo or a 996 GT3 for about 5 years! I have a '70 911 and daily drive an '03 Expedition. She drives a '11 4Runner. Seriously, having a wife that is that "supportive" is almost worse! Completely removes all the barriers to purchase. It's just me being a tightwad not wanting to drop $50-60K on another toy!

My wife would be thrilled if I came home with a new White Cayman S. She likes them and is always suggesting I get something more modern. I just like my old 85 Carrera. It has been paid for since the last millennium. I can work on it, and I know it.

A Cayman would be something I have to pay to have serviced.

We buy new cars (to us usually, occasionally really new) after the current vehicles have over 200k on them....

We replaced the wife's '00 MPV (bought late '02) with a 2012 CX9. I'm at 208k on my '99 altima (bought new new in '98), but we will be waiting another year or two to replace it (I hope)

My wife knows me too well. I have a VERY hard time making a decision and research the crap out of anything I buy that costs more than $100. So when I tell her, "I think I want a 968" she just says "Ya, got for it" knowing full well it could be years before I do. Nice part is she really doesn't care and is supportive, but knows me very well

I married an accountant.
We have lots of money in savings and investments, but not a whole bunch of toys.
I get a new pick-em-up truck pretty much any time I want (usually ever 4 or 5 years) but that's it.
And that's prolly a good thing.

I'm a tightwad and car guy. Plus I tend to think/analyze out loud. After a while she gets tired of the car talk and tells me to "Just go buy it already!" When I think about actually spending the money... I don't.

Been trying tell my wife about a 993 turbo for some time now. She said buy it so I can drive it sometimes, if you find one. she doesn't drive the 930 much. Its too much work for her. Hell, I don't drive the 930 much.

My wife knows I'm the tightwad, and only lay out cash for a very good deal.
Therefore, she lets me do whatever I want with cars. Plus, she is adorably cute.

If she ever leaves me, I'm going with her!

I frequently get emails containing CL ads from Mrs. Sarc that cover the gamut; A FJ62 one day, a clean SC on another day. Problem is: I'm 50% scotch, keep to a tight budget, and have serious vehicle a.d.d., so the wallet stays closed more than open.
She has a specific hankering for an E-type that we know will find a place in our home someday, the only "problem" is to convince her of another color besides the desired primrose yellow.

Good luck to you.

I married an accountant as well. Seeing that I'm an accountant, too, it's double trouble. But she's very supportive of my car problem, and she wants an 85-89 Carrera cab.

But that's on hold right now, since we have to replace her 2003 F150, since it was discovered that the frame has rotted out in several places. The thing was made with a bad omen over it's roof, and has been nothing but a PITA. She wants a Toyota FJ40 Cruiser, but they're tough to find with a manual trans. She's a keeper...she hates automatics.

Oh man. I am glad that is not a local car for sale. That might get me to let go of my current 911.
