Looks good.
Just some obsevations: -The top is rather thin-gauge metal and already warping. Some strips welded on will stop that, and provide a base structure for other accessories(i.e. platform for boiling tea using free heat while you're at it). -Need a variable vent at the top to regulate heat and moisture. -Need a sealed access panel for clean out/etc. +1 on the hazardous chemicals. Be safe and first burn off whatever what was in there, many times over.... |

ahhh,, yeah me too..
it was a food grade drum that grape concentrate came in. the season "cook" i gave it was for nearly 6 hours, two bags of kingsfords, a bunch of wood, and got the thing in excess of 500*... they guy i sourced it from has used them on many occasions and sold them to others for the same use. you can see in the food shot the coating is pretty covered already by a thick layer of black soot. could not be worse than all the other stuff ive put in my body all in the name of "fun"..the convex roof was not by design, but ended up being useful for a bit more roof room on the grill when in the top position... still a few things to do to be sure, something to choke the exhaust, and i found i need to plug two of the 4 vent holes i put down low. if it kills me ill have been fed good here at the end...

I like! Is there a place for a water tray? What about adding fuel? Cut a door at the bottom?

no water tray yet... the 1st run it was cooking hotter than i expected so i was on it a bunch with a heavy dose of fern sprayer. kinda dumbed into adding moisture... adding the soaked chips or coals for now is just by the weber grill that opens on either side.. noodlin a door down low, but wondering if since the bbq basin insert holds the ash, and i can get 90% out to dump if it's worth it... so i gotta roll er over on its side once every couple months to dump what's collected??? lil more diddlin today... you know i love to get my teak on ![]() ... knew i'd saved an old section of a teak futon frame for somethin jus like this... disclaimer-- the cuttin deck had been rinsed down swelling the wood to make my mitered joints look tight...![]() oh yeah,,, check mcqueen in the background pinchin off a deuce.....

Cool. Try to avoid setting yourself on fire, the homemade bbqs and Pelicans don't mix well recently.
