aka, it's a compliment to you, IMO the most wise, gentlemanly, sensible and valuable poster in PPOT, one of the very few whose posts I always make a point to read and take to heart.

Considering I'm several decades short of that, and have degraded so much that I apparently can't even hold a few drinks anymore, I'm not overly optimistic.
Maybe that you "can't hold a few drinks anymore" is a blessing in disguise and a prompt to move onto other things in your life. Read Gail Sheehy's Passages.

You sound like you have your head on straight. Best wishes for the rest of your life!

Ah yes, the joys of getting old that nobody tells you.........

I used to be a heavy drinker in my teen years, it wasn't uncommon to find me drinking vodka straight and chasing it with beer all night. I would get a 30 pack on a Friday night, it would be gone at the end of Saturday night. Even with that hardcore abuse, I didn't get bad hangovers and never got physically sick from it. In my early 20s I finally grew up, got married, had kids, and now typically drink a beer or two with dinner.

I hate liquor, on the occasion when I'm out with friends and somebody orders a shot I have to choke it down. 2+ of most beers will give me a headache, even though I don't feel any effect from the alcohol. It's not a huge impact on my life, but it's obvious that my drinking ability ain't what it used to be.

Glad you are getting the physical & will be talking to a doc. Like lots here, I used to drink and party quite a bit when young. I find I get sort of a buzz on with just a little alcohol nowdays. If I drink a bit, I feel tired most of the next day. And finally, I'm just not interested in it much anymore. I would be mindful of the changes you described and the fatigue you say you experience. Hopefully you'll get them cleared up with the physical. Otherwise just figure you're getting older - which sucks, although you're young to be going through those kinds of things. Good luck.

You don't get no kick from champagne?
Mere alcohol doesn't thrill you at all??

My father used to tell me to enjoy drink while I could, because the day would come when I couldn't drink any more.

As I got older, I have made it a point to drink less and better. Quality over quantity. This strategy is serving me very well.

McLovin:

It sounds to me like you should definitely check out your liver. My guess is your hepatic enzymes (LFT's) will be elevated ALT/AST/SGOT. You may have developed a tolerance for alcohol's affects and are experiencing early hepatic insufficiency due to viral hepatits or even early (non-alcoholic) cirrhosis. Or worse yet, you gettin' old!

When your urine looks like orange jello and smells like burnt paint, it might be time to cut back a little.

I've heard heroin works a lot better, but I've heard bad things about it too.

I am amazed how many guys here go without a physical for years and decades. Maybe it helps if I compare it with oil analysis for your engines:

You can see stuff going bad long before you spin a rod bearing and need an engine transplant. Don't worry about every value being perfect but really see that overall there is nothing major going sideways. On a lot of your organ functions, you don't want to wait to hear a rod knock before you realize you should have changed your oil ever 5k instead of ever 20k

I think he is pointing at diabetes, however I'm a 55 YO type II and have no problem getting a buzz off alcohol.

YMMV

I suppose a multitude of possibilities...the Dr.s on the forum will say.
For me, tests showed hyperparathyroidism >high calcium< that's been raising hell with my kidneys (Chronic Kidney Disease).
I fatigue quickly & wake-up tired...some days I just feel like sleeping all day.
Makes working out and trying to keep fit rather taxing.
It looks like some surgery soon.
.
I am also borderline diabetic & I lost my appetite for any type of boo...hard, beer, wine, +...yrs. ago.

I never thought I'd age. Good health to all.

Cocktail hour is about to begin.

Time to dust myself off, saddle up and give it a go.

We'll see how it goes.

Enough doom and gloom. Try a liqueur called Domaine de Canton. It's awsome. It's French (I love the French) and contains some cognac, the tiniest hint of ginger, other flavors, and drink it from a schapps glass.
