Not sure they 'threw' anythnig away..

The 959 was a racing car project that took too long to gestate and was outdated by rule changes...they certainly put the concept to good use in the C4 cars...and the turbo 4 cars since then....I'd say much of the processes used to develop the 959 technology was re-used.. not the hardware but the developmental path....as important as the material.

The CGT was similar.. and racing cars whose use as a racer was curtailed... so turn it into road car.. not exactly a 'new' model line as the Cayenne or Panamera.

Neither are 'beauties' in the stylistic sense, both very spartan designs with a focus on the dynamics of the car rather than its aesthetic functions.

In person they have a different character, and I agree if you mean they don't photo well.

I'm not the only which has ever remarked that they look a little like pick-up trucks.

What they need in my opinion is an element to carry the roof line arc, a buttress, or a 917 style blind spot maker.

That is one way, but would need to be curved more to match the architecture.

The latest Ferrari's "flange" or "buttress" another way to carry over the lines of the roof.



I think a large blind-spot body piece or alternately an open buttress would help the car's looks even with the top off.

Either way would be an improvement - in my opinion.

They fixed that issue in the 918, a little late for the Carrera GT though.

Bought my Cayenne turbo from them and they had a silver one then. That Porsche dealership is one of the nicest I've ever been to. They delivered my car to me in Denver just because it was easier for me to take delivery. They had a CGT the day I drove down for the test drive; you guys sure have some wealthy p-car owners down there.

On the flip side when I purchased my Panamera in Denver I was lucky to get it washed on delivery.

The buttress studies I explored in this tread came to life apparently about a year later when a company with a similar idea brought it to life.

I like it, they did a nice job.

Zagato gave the Carrera GT a new hood, a modified front bumper with large air vents, a restyled rear apron with an integrated carbon fiber diffuser and a modified roof. The supercar has also been fitted with a bespoke exhaust system with two large oval tailpipes

There is a video in the link above with a nice exhaust sound thing going on. Almost as nice as a Ferrari's sound.

I did find this alternative...............new to me unless I've forgotten about it.

The only surviving Carrera GT prototype now resides in the showroom at Canepa Design in Scotts Valley, CA. It's interesting to note all the differences between it and a 2004 production version sitting near it.
