Never shot a handgun that felt as right as a 1911 in my hand.
Good on the USMC. |

Art,
I saw that as well. Much better weapon. Leave it to those Devil Dogs to get it back to the way it should be.

The only "improvement" for a modern .45 might be a double stack magazine.

Double stack would be nice but concerned about the grip thickness. Might be too wide for some of the grunts...

Double-stack doesn't add that much to the width.

Lord knows I like 1911's as much as the next guy (if you own more than I do you have quite a pile).
That said, I feel there have been some improvements in the last 100 years in regard to the 1911's method of carry (cocked & locked or empty chamber). I think a SIG P220 (perhaps others) would be superior. Jim

i have never been a fan..but that updated one in the article looks GREAT! i wonder what kinda party they threw when they landed that contract?
if i ever get a 1911, i would love it to be thru that Larry Vickers custom build class. you take a box of oversized parts and sand and machine it to come together perfectly.

Vash,
Try a Kimber Custom. Accurate out of the box and a wonderful piece.

Reminds me of the quote attributed to a Texas Ranger: "Why do you carry a .45 auto? Because they do not make a .46!"

Vash, That class seems to be a resonable price!
Figure that if you took your pistol to a smith it was going to set you back 2k. for 2.7k you can learn? Pretty cool deal. My 1911 is a Colt 1991a1 their cheapest. I would like to de-horn it, tighten the slide, smooth out the action a bit, funnel the mag well and add a taller magazine release, and add some low profile night sites. nice and simple.

Kinda like a rip here please! JMB would have slapped the moron that said "hey, this is the spot to weakin the slide, let's take away strenght"

Are today's tight, accurized 1911s as reliable in appalling filthy conditions as yesterday's loose military 1911s, or a competing design like the Glock, SIG, HK, etc?
