"Made with real fruit!"
Just popped open a bag of fruit snacks and it struck me....
How pathetic is it that we live in a world of processed, chemically enhanced, biologically manipulated food that Marketing agencies have to actually say "Made with real fruit"? What other kind of "fruit" is there? Just imagine the fruit snacks that are not "made with real fruit" and this is the ***** parents give their toddlers to shut them up. No wonder there are allergies, Aspergers, etc.

I was running around the other day and didn't have time to eat so I grabbed a Slim Jim. Took one bite and looked at the ingredients. "Mechanically separated chicken". Hmmm, that's the last Slim Jim I'll eat...

FDA says: Provided the information given is truthful and not misleading, a food may bear a claim about the presence of an ingredient perceived to add value, such as "made with real fruit". I could not find any requirement for the amount of fruit that the product must contain. Does it also mention it's made with partially hydrogenated high fructose corn syrup?
My daughter asked if she could buy a box of snack bars at the store. I told her she could, as long as there was no high fructose corn syrup or partially hydrogenated oils on the ingredient list. Fail. She picked up some Pop Tarts. Same answer. After the third or fourth attempt she quit asking.

When it says "made with real fruit" that means the fruit in it is real. Maybe there's just a smidgen there and the rest is hydrogenated motor home tires but hey - the fruit is REAL!
Another one that cracks me up is the new "gluten free" marketing. I was in a store and saw uncooked beef marked as "gluten free." I mean really - what the heck did you THINK it was made out of? angela

Thank you for posting this. You got me curious about the ingredients in Smuckers Strawberry Jam, and on the label it says:
Strawberries, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, sugar. What the heck? Nobody uses corn syrup when they make home-made jam, and home-made jams are the best! No more Smuckers for me. I need to find a new jam, a jam without corn syrup. _ |
