I don't know if she can serve him as a resident of the new state and collect.

Restraining orders are useless if the other person is nuts.

That would depend on the state. Most states, you have to become a resident before filing. States vary on residency requirements. Some it is as soon as you move, some there is a wait. Virgina has a 6 month waiting period.

Update: She moved out today. I did not get involved. My buddy also stayed away.

The problem I have is if this guy were so bad why didn't this woman GET the order. There is more to this than what was revealed by the woman.

I'm not siding with the guy. He could be a douche bag. Then again maybe he isnt. But it just doesnt smell right from what I am reading. More often than not the guy is made out to be a douche bag to get the upper hand.

My father was that bad, not sure why my mother never got an order.

She handled it the way she thought best at the time.

In the long run it was the right choice.

Mom went from a weak controlled individual to a powerful, strong, confident don't f with me or I will eat you alive entity. She is an awe inspiring woman.

My father, who truly did love my mother more than anything realized that he had issues and while he was not able to fix all of his shortcomings he was able to eventually get to the point that he could have a long, happy, fulfilling relationship with his last wife.

I'm not siding with the wife. If someone feels they have to take drastic measures like she's doing and the guy has guns, maybe there's a reason for that.

Even if he's the most level headed person, he could snap and start shooting everybody. I know I wouldn't want to take that risk.

Let him deal with his **** on his own.
