Not getting involved!!!
I was approached about a week or two back by one of my neighbors. He knows that I know a bit about firearms.
One of their friends is getting divorced. This is a hostile divorce and the husband does not know. He is on a golf getaway and she is moving out this weekend. The papers are to be served on Monday. According to my neighbor, this guy is a jerk, violent, etc. I have never met either the husband or wife. I guess the wife is a friend of my neighbor's wife. And the husband has some firearms. The wife is concerned he is going to come home, find her gone, go into a rage and then get the guns out and come after her. Supposedly the lawyer suggested something be done about the firearms. My buddy wanted me to go over to the house and help make sure the firearms were unloaded, maybe hide the firearms in the house and possibly take the ammo. I declined. I don't know these people and do not wish to get involved. I would think that his firearms being 'missing' would further infuriate him, as would missing ammo. If he is into firearms, and he does have the money, he could quickly replace everything. I also think that if the lawyer thinks this is a good idea, he should be arranging this, not having some friends do it. My buddy called today and said this is the day. I went over my thoughts. I told him I didn't want to get involved. I also said he shouldn't get involved. I think I talked my buddy out of being involved. I mean, what happens if the kids say something? They could say it was my buddy who hid the guns or took the ammo. If this guy is crazy, he could come after my buddy. Maybe he would think my buddy was involved with his wife. Who knows? My wife thinks it could also be another neighbor pushing about the firearms. Again, I'm not sure. The only thing I would have done is show my buddy how to remove a magazine, from a similar firearm at my place and then operate the action to remove/check for a round in the chamber. By that point, I think he was convinced the whole thing was a bad idea. Anyone have thoughts on this? |
Wouldn't get involved, either. Even having your buddy mess around with potentially loaded firearms if he has no firearms experience could be disaster.
Best thing (if what you've been told is true), is for the battered wife to get out and get someplace safe (i.e. somewhere where the angry loaded husband won't find her). |
Red-I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole. No good can possibly come of this for you.

I think you're correct. Hiding the ammo is completely useless when you can get more at Wal-Mart. Hiding the guns isn't much different when you can buy a gun at any number of stores in thirty minutes or less. The best thing the wife could do is to be careful and be ready to call the cops, maybe keeps friends close.

God no. She needs to GTF away from him, and get a restraining order on the spot.
|
From my understanding, she is moving out of state with the kids.
|
I think you did the exact right thing.
|
Does Texas allow her to move with kids without consent? If it's as it seems, this has time bomb written all over it.

Maybe delete this thread. Just in case he sees it...
