I've always been blessed with great friends, it's a defining reason to be alive, and I have to say Thank you, Thank you All, who took the time to wish me good health here, in email, messages, phone calls and FB. I will cherish your messages and the sentiment behind them forever. Thank you. And especially to dtw! Dave has been with me every hour of the journey. What an amazing friend!
Back to work now, here's the quick story, have left out a lot of gory details. Fall is our biggest season to date, even been a struggle to make it happen. Sometimes growth isn't so great. Our Spring 13 buyers show in NY was August 5-6-7. With a ton of help from friends Chris Bennet and David Delpico (both Pelicans) to say nothing of our amazing office manager Susan, I left for the show early on Aug. 4th to set up our new, very cool booth and have an amazing show. It was a great drive down. Getting everything set-up, I realized I had forgotten our booth signs and also that everything that came in from India directly to the show needed to get up to Boston ASAP for Susan to get out. So I left at 7PM on Saturday and drove back to Boston. Easy. Hit my bed at 10:45PM, good timing. Woke up at 3AM, pulled everything from the car, reloaded with what I needed, and headed back at 5AM. Just enough time to make it all happen.
Even with coffee, oddly I felt tired, but not dangerously so, I've been there before. So instead of pulling over for a rest, I kept going thinking I could catch a quick nap at the show while our sales reps set up the garments. Well, some time around 7AM on Sunday morning, it caught up with me. At the hospital, the State Trooper said I was doing 65 because that's the indentation the needle left on the dash window, his opinion was I fell asleep at the wheel and he also thought I should be dead. Given everything, he was a very nice fellow and was most concerned about me.
Since then it’s been about recovery, slow but sure. The worst wrong is a broken pelvis but at least not so bad that requires surgery. Have to wear a brace for 8 weeks out and about, a different one in bed, and have a PT come in. Broken large toe on left foot. This feels better already There was supposed to be some bleeding on my brain that did get worse for one day, but stopped and after 5 scans, they were OK with it. I tried to explain very little brain damage could actually occur and with 3 days, they seemed to get it. The worse, believe it or not, seems to be the all over body crush. Chest, shoulders are killing me and the Tylenol/codeine 3 is not doing much. My mom said there was 6-8 inches between the steering wheel and the back of the seat. I can feel that.
But I am feeling better little by little every day, and this thread rally cheers me on, thank you!
Go out and hug your loved ones, don’t wait a minute, it could really make a difference. here's how they found me, upside down and in the car. There is no doubt that God and/or the Merc saved my life.
