Met him and many others in Huntsville back in the early 70's. As big as Lindbergh, yet would still take time to stop and talk to kids. A great role model at a time we really needed a Hero. Godspeed Neil.

I can't believe it...so much time has passed since those early days of space exploration.
Nothing left to add except we lost a great American hero.....rest in peace Neil. ![]() Apollo 11 Crew: L-R: Neil A. Armstrong, commander; Michael Collins, command module pilot; and Edwin E. I was 17 at the time of the walk. But I remember getting up early to watch every Mercury launch. And I had a Revell version of every Nasa vehicle starting with the X-1.

Get off my lawn!

I was living in Hawaii when he stepped off the LEM. It happened prime time for us. I got to wave to Neil as he rode by in the moon bug containment capsule. He passed just a few blocks from our house. He was a real hero. The word hero is very overused. The news will call some kid a hero because he called 911.

What a life! ... Do we have anyone that even comes close to this guys many achievements?
It is sad but I bet he had no regrets in his final moments. Rest In Peace Mr Armstrong.

I remember watching the landing on a small B&W TV in my parents room - That's when I thought that anyone and certainly my country could do anything...
Steely-eyed rocket man indeed. +1

Regarding the lack of photos of Armstrong: the explanation I heard was only one camera, Armstrong was the Commander and wanted to handle the camera himself. The fact that he made no effort to ensure photos of him on the moon probably reflects more on the genuineness of his humility than anything else.
What a guy. There would be very few people not deservably humbled by all the Apollo guys. How long until we see something like Apollo again? Hopefully in my lifetime. |

Was 5 and was on 'Holidays'. Radium Hot Springs B.C. There was a 'camp house' painted in green. Someone had a very small D.C T. V. In their truck. Small like
The moon was 1/2 phase I remember. I looked real hard to see anything. After that I as a nose picker was hooked. Adults would say that they saw something on the moon - I remember that ! I remember the moon landing more than any beating I got.

I was 9, and saw the rockets being tested on the launch pad just a couple of weeks earlier on a tour of the space center. We didn't have a TV, so went to my aunt's house for the "event"...seems like it was about 11 pm eastern. Still remember it well...RIP Neil.
