Who here are a pretty boy or really worry about the way you look?

My plumber has this new guy, mid 20s, slim, nice looking kid. He constantly check out himself. He's no dummy, and can carry on a conversation ok. I try to not talk to them much while they work. He crawls out of the house and immediately checks out his hair. Combs his hair before he goes out to the truck for a tool or a fitting. This is the second project he's worked on. I told Rick, my plumber, about how pretty he is, and he spat coffee on my face rolling on the flooring laughing. The owner's daughters are in the house sometimes, so he see them but never stares like your typical dirty construction guys, like me. Nice of him to not do that to make my clients uncomfortable. I like that in him, but the pretty boy stuff just makes non stop entertainment. Another example, when he walks pass a window, he must check out himself, not once, but several times. Youth, what can you do? I am always in a clean golf shirt, long sleeve shirt, or Shaun's long hood t-shirt, shorts, glasses, clean cut hair (You know, your typical nerd). I don't care what I look like as long as I am clean and presentable. How about you guys? What do you think?

I don't how to change or edit the title because I am usually sleeping while typing due to my two left thumb and lack of paying attention to what the hell I am doing.

So, are you a pretty boy or do you take a glance and say, "Oh, one of those guys". My wife's sister has this boyfriend who would take about two hours just to get ready to go out to dinner with us. this is when we were in our mid to late 20's. We always waited for him but he was dressed (not to mention smell to kill too, so I hated riding in the same car with him. Cool guy otherwise) to kill. Me, I was always in my shorts, even winter, flip flops or shoe sometimes, and tee shirts. Into the steak house we go. I am ready in less then 5 minutes after a shower.

I tell my wife that growing up in Hawaii in the 60s ruined me for fashion. As a 1st grade student I went to school in a pair of shorts. No shirt, no shoes. At my job I wear shorts and a t-shirt all summer. In the winter I get all dressed up in old jeans and a t-shirt. On hundreds of occasions I have been in the middle of a project and discovered I need one more part. I have no problem washing my hands and going to the the store in very dirty clothes, with a sweaty sweatband on my forehead. As long as my backside is clean enough not to get my car dirty I just go as is.

A guy taking two hours to get dressed has no idea what he's doing. While I'm not a pretty boy by any means, I do have a rep as a nice dresser and it takes me about 10 minutes from shower to doorway. Once I know where I'm going, I know what to pull from the closet and everything in each area "goes" so there's no fussing about what goes with what. It's too bad that there are guys like that, because they make dressing well look difficult and a lot of guys use that as an excuse to dress like slobs.

Living in SoCal for such a long time has enabled me to dress in T-shirt, shorts, & tennis (or whatever they call them) shoes 98% of the time I go somewhere, no matter where it is. My wife has given up on trying to get me to wear anything else. Once I've schit, shaved, & showered & combed my hair, I never do anything else for myself for the rest of the day - unless we go somewhere late in the day which might necessitate a hair touch up.

I care about my appearance. About 20 years ago I was on a construction crew. One of the guys was an old calf roper, a real redazz. He started pitching me a bunch of prettyboy BS during lunch one day & after a while I tired of it. My quote in fake redneck accent " So what you tryin to say there Gary Dale? You wanna boy fuch me or what?" Everyone fell off their chairs laughing & he made no more references to my prettiness after that.

It's ok to be a pretty boy in construction as long as you make sure you work harder than everyone else.

Me? Always. I'm in a suit and tie often for work, nice suits. Casual day for me is SANS tie. Weekends I'm still dressed well, I don't leave the house without making sure I look good.

This was instilled upon me by prep school I suppose, maybe even farther back when we would dress up to go on airplanes, or just out to dinner. My wife is the same way, and now my son as well.

I was taught to be fit, look my best at all times and to make good first impressions. So far it's worked very well. Even in the often casual IT world.

(it didn't hurt for getting dates back in the day either)

Yea, we had a guy working for us (plumbers) who was a body builder. This guy would take any opportunity to look at himself in the mirror/glass. He was a pretty boy too.

A few years ago the wife and I were invited to a big Mexican wedding with probably 300 or so guests and it was at a large hall in the area. There were a men's and women's rest room across from each other in the hallway leading inside. I was curious about the line of guys at the door to the men's room and finally went to check? I saw the line slowly moving sideways past the sinks which had large mirrors on the walls and ALL the guys were combing their hair and checking their shirts and redoing their hair until they cycled out the exit door!

We watched a couple of them and in about 10 minutes they got back in line to check again......this happened all night!

Ear hair, balding, a few beer pounds more than in my youth, but I'm still the best looking guy in the room. I guess I'm just blessed that way. I don't have to work at it like your plumber. Sounds like your plumber just wants to be like me. Hah, keep trying plumber boy.
