This was a time when very few people road a bike seriously back in the mid 80s. I was in high school training and racing. Cycling was not a popular sport, only a hand full had the skin tight shorts and other colorful cycling gear, unlike today's fashion show and road blocks. I did not play ball in high school, and had always had shaved legs since my 11 grade year to now. Just think what I had to go through with back then but I didn't care.

So then why did you do it? You were racing at a high enough level?
I just don't see a reason to. The little bit of lost speed does not matter to me. I don't ride a fancy road bike so hair on my legs is not going to make a lick of difference. I just zip around the canyons wearing my shorts, t shirt, etc. and enjoying the ride.

What about road rash? So the scabs don't hurt or something? They still hurt like a mofo without hair. I have some road rash on my chin that took out the skin deep enough that there wasn't any hair left in that patch and I shave anyway. It still hurt and hair still grew in around the wound.

I guess it makes clean up easier, doesn't matter to me, I've had plenty of road rash. My Shift Partner bought a road bike recently, he is now rabid. I went for what he called a nice little ride Monday. I told him to keep it around 40 miles because I haven't rode much this season. Last 10 miles weren't much fun.

Hey, wait a minute. The thread title got changed. I liked the first one better. Reminded me of Pink Floyd.

Everyone should take care of themselves and look presentable when they go out. If not, you may appear in one of those "people of Walmart" montages.
Me? I hose down when I'm washing the cars. I make sure I'm well groomed. Needlenose pliers are great for plucking out those annoying nose and ear hairs that I seem to get more of as I get older. If the wife's feeling frisky, I dab a little 30 weight behind the ears, seems to put her over the edge. Just before our winter vacation, I fire up the mig welder without a helmet to get that nice base tan before the trip. If it's been a while since my last haircut, anti-sieze works great to keep the hair behind my ears, plus it gives me that distinguished graying of the temples that women find so sexy. Yep, a man's got to know how to take care of himself and use the tools he knows best.

No man. YOu do that yourself unless you win and it is usually by someone in the club. No luck, a male. I was never good enough but only won two races in my entire life and got only one massage and only on the legs to aide healing. Now get that dirty mind out of the gutter.

I was at the big P AG b'day bash at Pebble Beach a few years ago, and some guy I'd never met before commented that my hat did not match my shirt pattern - I was amazed, but he was a Californian... At the other extreme, in my fair town you can barely tell the millionaires from the homeless people -- definitely not by their clothes -- close inspection of the skin surface usually does the trick, however. Add to that that many of the loggers and farmers are hippies.. and the rest lesbians, and you can't tell a book by looking at the cover. Did I mention all the Marines and Airborne vets with world peace and bio-diesel stickers on their pickuos? |

I haven't heard of this one. It so funny I actually laugh out loud. I am at my job site right now screwing around looking at you know who? Tomorrow they will be done until the finish trim before final inspection.
