Ford's new hybrids are serious contenders

2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid SEL First Test - Motor Trend

188hp

0-60 mph in 8.1 seconds

47 mpg city / 47 mpg freeway

Will do up to 62 mph on battery alone (engine off)

Priced from $25,995

Most journalists I know like it better than the Prius V

New 2013 Ford Fusion Energi (Hybrid) is also rated 47 mpg city / 47 mpg freeway

The Fords look better than the Prius.

How do these cars measure up to the Volvo XC70 crash and safety wise?

Many of the managers at my company have the Fusion Hybrid (not this new one - the older model). Quite a few have ordered new ones - these new ones look really nice! The 2012 and earlier are a somewhat stodgy looking.

I have to say that the ones we already have on the road (2012 and older) seem to be very well liked in the group and very reliable. We sell these at 70K or 3 years, which ever comes first. Don't know what they'll be like when they are old cars, but right now, the ones we have on the road do not seem to be able to be killed by our managers. Which is saying something - LOL!!!

Eric - where did Ford get their hybrid technology, or did they come it with it themselves?

The 2013 Fusion/Mondeo has not yet been tested by NHTSA, IIHS, or NCAP

Soon

A bit of both. It's Ford's own development, but Toyota held several patents that Ford licensed in exchange for some Ford emissions patents/knowledge. This was a few years ago. They've had divergent paths since. You can say it's Ford's tech at this point.

OK, Fords got some styling going on, and claim some good numbers. But the real issue from the potential buyers point of view is build quality, materials quality, and durability. Unfortunately Ford has some convincing to do that they have turned the corner on these quality concerns.

I have to admit, I'm not a domestic car fan but have some GM loyalties --- but the new line of Fords are looking really nice.

I'm yet to see a new Fusion around town, they look great in pictures. Ford has really came around in my opinion, our 2012 F150 has 10k on it and has been excellent. I picked it over a Tundra, I'm not sure how I could better compliment it than that.

What is up with all the scowling aston martins (ford now uses an AM style grille)? Cars used to be happy and some still are.

But what is up with this on a grocery-getter? I can understand for a sportscar like a Lamborghini.
