Texas to open fastest US highway with 85 mph limit
![]() AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas will soon open a stretch of highway with the highest speed limit in the country. The Texas Transportation Commission has approved the 85 mph speed limit for a 41-mile-long toll road near the increasingly crowded Interstate 35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio. The road runs several miles east of the interstate between two of the state's largest metropolitan areas. ...

whooohoooo!
Anyone who has ever driven across the I-10 corridor from San Antonio through West TX will sincerely appreciate this. I made the journey from Baton Rouge, LA to Bisbee, AZ two years ago to help a friend drag a '65 Dodge TownWagon Powerwagon home. It's an absolutely miserable drive West of San Antonio. Anything that shaves an hour or two off of this is a good start, IMHO. Last edited by Shuie; 09-09-2012 at 06:43 PM.. |

God bless Texas. That could be easily done with a LOT of midwestern Interstates. Pretty much every one in KS is straight and flat, only moderately traveled, and with minimal exits. Even 75 feels slow.

This is a new road and will be designed for 85. About 30-40 miles west of San Antonio, I-10 is already 80 mph. I'm just glad they upped the limit from Houston to San Antonio to 75.

![]() Yeah, if it's on any of the road in or out of Austin, you can count on it.

That's not true? Because everybody in KS lives on a farm, owns cattle, and sees tornadoes regularly.

Montanabahn is gone, but they still leave you alone up to 83-84... beyond that my luck runs out.

Man, I was excited when the OH Turnpike raised the limit to 70mph... Another 15mph would be nice!

80 seems to be the ''new'' average speed in a lot of areas out East...
