Love beets, my wife does them in pressure cooker and I eat them with vinegar, butter and pepper.
|
Beets are the only food in the world that will instantly induce vomiting in me at the smell of them.
...so, uh, no. |
Beets/greens and cabbage last a long time and are nutritious.
Wish the fast foods sold fresh dishes. |
No beets. I can't understand why anyone would want that taste in their mouth.
This is probably because they used to serve them to us at least once or twice a month in the primary school cafeteria. The sight of those things in that pale green plastic divided tray was a visual assault on the senses. I did see part of an episode on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives one time that made me wonder though. I think they were sliced 1/2" thick, marinated in something, cooked on the big restaurant burger griddle, and put in a big biscuit with something like chicken salad that made it look edible. And the customers were raving about it. I dunno. Gimme turnips and collards all day long, though. Even an occasional rutabaga. |

Absolutely hate the vile things........ won't touch em with a barge pole.
not even allowed in my home............. NO! |
+1 on the borscht soup. My wife cooks beets in water first and takes skin off. This makes them less likely to spray beet juice on you(wear same color shirt if you are working with beets). Other ingredients can be potatoes, onions, peas and lima beans.

I refuse to eat beets. Disgusting aroma & Flavor. I have "flipped my beets" on occasion, however.
|
Had some fresh beets tonight...boiled, peeled, and sliced...mmmmmmm!
The girls had some too....they were going crazy just smelling the aroma after they were finished cooking - I sliced up one and gave it to them in their bowls. Australian Cattle Dogs and beetroot go together like lamb and rice! :) |
I grew beets and onions in my garden this year (among other things) from seed. Very tasty and rewarding! I like the beets roasted with onions, goat cheese, a little lettuce and balsamic vinager.

My, My. It sounds like most of you are either picky 5 year-olds or consider Applebee's a dining destination.
Red and Yellow beets are wonderful if prepared properly--a simple roasting and then a marinade of EVOO and white balsamic. Simple, healthy and delicious. I would never try to consider changing the minds of the naysayers, however. I've seen how feelings get hurt around here when someone disagrees with someone else. Now back to your hotpockets and fast food....... |
try yellow beets, a bit different taste, doesn't bleed red color on other food,. doesn't turn your pee red

When I was a kid in the very early 60's, my friend and I were playing in the street when the trashmen came around. Back then they would dump your steel trash can that is in your yard into a large burlap square, grab the 4 corners and carry that to the truck and then dump the contents into the trash truck. Well, a beet bounced out into the street and my buddy picked it up and ate the damn thing. I have never eaten a beet to this day.
