You must drive with your SC with your shift hand on your keister?

I know the thing isn't fast but god you gotta give credit where due....look at the charts provided.

My 993 isn't much better. I don't engage in road racing. If I have an itch, I go to a track event. Much better suited for the car and my wallet.

I think we all agree that the G8 wasn't driven to the full potential.

Be careful engaging in road racing. If your opponent wrecks and is killed, or if they kill someone else, you can expect manslaughter charges.

How is your reading comprehension? Too much gasoline running in your veins?

Here Eric's post again, in case you missed it. He's referring to the same charts you are - the ones he supplied.

Despite its 4100 pound curb weight, the G8 GT pulls just 11.3 pounds for every horsepower, where your 911 lugs 15.3 lbs/hp.

In other words, he wasn't full throttle through the whole pull. Which isn't suprising given that your "3rd to 5th gear pull" would equate to 94 mph in 3rd @ 6300 shift, and pulling to your 110 mph top speed. I'm sure he gave enough to take you initially then let off, hoping not to get caught (let alone racing) at triple digit speeds.

In an official drag strip setting, you'd see nothing but taillights from a G8 GT
You need to stop worrying about winning stoplight races in a 30 year old classic car.

LOL...you guys are too hard on 911SauCy. I think my '74 would have a pretty good shot against the Pontiac.

If 15% is the correct power loss assumption and if the dyno was accurate, my engine makes 205 hp. The car weighs about 2400 lbs. That's under 12 lbs/hp. I could give that G8 a struggle. I'd probably pull him from 80 up.

Other things to consider re: the guy in the G8; he may have been proudly trying out some new chip that was actually slowing him down... he may have changed his exhaust so drastically that he was not getting max performance... he may have had a nasty, dirty air filter... he may have been running some bad gas... he may have had a worn-out, raced-to-death, 237K mile engine with failing compression.

It may have been all of the above.

Lol. Always picking on targas. You never know... My targa is quite a bit lighter than an SC, has quite a bit more HP, and is geared much more favorably. It is certainly a great deal faster than my '89 Carrera which was supposed to be one of the better cars of the period. Depending on the speed when the Pontiac was initially engaged, skill of the other driver, and the specific road/conditions...I am pretty sure even an old targa like mine would have a shot. Besides... The G8 was made by GM...it started to fall apart the day they drove it home.

I had a similar experience a few years back. I am guessing either the guy could not drive, or his car was not firing on all cylinders or something.
1980 sc faster than an e 46 m3??

^^funny!

The G8 was leaned back and rifling through the gears (auto hard to screw up)

The "hard to resist" comment is priceless.

I went from a (stock supercharged) turbo converted '98 Regal GS that made 456hp/515tq to the FRONT tires. Ultimate sleeper...white with the stock Buick rims 90% of the time. I used to cruise around with front slicks and rear skinnies on the weekends and hammer on every vette I could find...

Got out of the HP war...you'll never win... And got a 911 because of the history and über-fun driving experience...

Then that little demon came back.

My SC will draw all sorts of attention with street racers. I won't engage. Do some track time. It will make any street work very mundane feeling.

There used to be lots of posts here about how much faster the WRX was than our cars. Not so much these days. Found out that was not really
accurate.

So what cage are you using?

How do you run in showroom stock with suspension mods?

This.
