Question Braintrust Question on Spoons: old style sights for an M-4

OK Braintrust Wife gave me a demand (), ultimatum () if you will!

She desires to have an old style sight on her M-4. Looking for a notch or a partial buckhorn with a V bottom or U bottom worst case.

I've trolled the web, called sight manufacturers, basically struck out short of some plastic airsoft sights.

She demands I find one and would like two...

What say The Spoon Team????? I'm counting on you!

i am an AR newbie, so i am not quite sure what you mean by 'old style'.

i have a peep sight from pro mag, http://www.promagindustries.com/product-p/pm137.htm , that i paid ~$55. i like it a lot.

perhaps something like this for the front sight: http://www.promagindustries.com/product-p/pm209.htm

or AR15 Iron Sights

Just convert the peep sight to an open notch... A few minutes with a Dremel should do it.

I'm not really an AR guy but I have a pretty good selection of old sights so if you have a picture of what you need, I look through my stuff.

The issue you will face is how to mount the rear sight, I assume you have an M4 style upper with a rail. The next issue is getting the front and rear sights on the same plane. The typical AR front sight is mounted pretty high. You could remove the front sight completely and install a gas block with a rail on it which would bring the front down and provide a uniform mounting platform. If you can weld then it should not be too difficult to graft whatever style rear sigh you chose onto a back-up iron sight base. You would of course have to cut off the sight from the BUIS first.

So what exactly does your wife have against a peep sight? If she's just being a Luddite tell her that aperture sights were developed in the 50's. The 1850's that is...

Henry,

Very kind offer!

The m-4 mounts and sights appear something like this:

The type of apeture She Who Must Be Obeyed likes is a buckhorn style:

The trouble is finding the exact sights for a Weaver/Piccatiny rail system such as is used on the M4. I was hoping bolt on....

Worst case is I find a sight fully adjustable up and sideways and use the dremel to remove material. I have one of those on my little piece but was hoping for something more purpose driven.

There is a replacement reticule that flips between buckhorn and peep but it is not guaranteed to work on all sights.

Maybe we just do the jump to a $300+ red-dot but she wants this as low tech as possible.

Thank you!

She has been using open iron sights since 7 and really does not like the peeps. I like the peeps.... I spent lots of time searching for a tang for my lever gun oh so many years ago when noone was making them and the internet was Al's Big Dream.

If you decide to go the Red Dot route make sure you look at the Eotech holographic sight. It is a great sight.
