Nothing like an ice cold Tecate with a pinch of salt and a squirt of lime on a hot South Texas day...

I don't mind flavoring beer, I like variety. +1 on blue moon and orange, and mexican beer and lime.
There's a German Pilsner so bitter that it is served with a shot of raspberry syrup, I forget the name. I also like cider and lager mixed together with a splash of black current (Snakebite). When I was in Munich they were serving beer and something like mountain dew together.

Have you never experienced the magnificence of a Guiness float?

For the lime, as others have mentioned, the real reason was for cleaning and keeping flies away. Somehow that has evolved into squeezing it and putting it in the bottle or in the glass. Also, if the beer is warmer and you are in a hot climate, it can help reduce that skanky warm beer taste (why I do it if I can't have a Bass at the beach).
Negro Modelo, Dos Equis, Corona, Tecate, Landshark. All fine with a lime. For the salt, I've seen it done with Bud. If a beer has a lot of carbonation and one does not like it, the salt will dampen the carbonation at bit. Obviously there is a tipping point whereby the beer will begin to taste like salt water. I've never had issue with carbonation level so I can't say as I've done it. Incidentally, the best beer I have seen hold up to the heat, that is when it gets warmer, is Bass. IPA you would think would hold up as that what it was created for. Alas, I have not acquired the taste for a warm IPA. |

While on the beer topic and I digress from limes but, it is time for one of the best ever seasonal beers... Sierra Nevada Celebraton Ale! If you've not had it, look for it in your finer packies....

I've had lots of their pale ale. Great stuff. How does their celebration ale compare to say Sam winter lager?

Have done the lime deal. Personaly prefer Sol with lime. Not huge on Corona. Never tried the salt thing though.

But with the Celebration its similar to Torpedo but more of an ale element rather than just a hyped up IPA. |

This is all you need to know about Mexican beer and lime.
![]() I gave up drinking in quantity a long time ago, but I do love good beer. Typically I favor ales. Red, brown, IPA anything with 'nut' in the name. But I tell you Modelo Especial with a lime is just a damn good drinking beer. It's good without but great with the lime. -J |
