sometimes i forget how smooth new tires can be!!
i put it off forever. new shoes for "betty whitey" my 911. my tires were worn, hard..and flat spotted from harsh AXing. rolled the wheels in, and said a prayer as i handed them off to the tech.
no issues..put them on and went for a spin. WOW! no steering vibes, smooth..no road noise. man, almost worth the price of admission. my wife has been driving it to school. she loves Betty. i figured new tires were better than that phone call, and me explaining to some AAA guy how to inflate the spare roadside..shudder. i got Dunlop Direzza DZ101s or something. round, black..plain.. i wonder what life's next expenditure is gonna be?

It does make a huge difference. I had a Boxster daily driver. I put some miles on the car, and didn't really notice the decline in the tires until I got new ones put on. Its like having your knives sharpened by a pro.

Of this I am convinced:
New tires suck...until you drive off the mold release and scuff up the tread a bit. Granted that the severity of the need to do this will vary from brand to brand, but beware and be aware that some come new so slick and smooth as to be downright dangerous.
