are you close to your siblings?

man, i'm not.

we get along now as adults. my brother and i, seem tight..but if we didnt both hunt and fish, i bet we would never talk. we talk all the time now, but it is about hunting, hunting gear, guns, bows...etc.

i have no clue if he even has a girlfriend. or when he plans on retiring (soon, i think).

my sister? forget about it. we screen each other's calls.

i might get the random deep meaningful conversation occasionally, but it is far from the norm.

weird. last time at elk camp..my friend told me my brother was thinking of dumping some girl because she liked to party too much and ignored her daughter..wtf? he had better intel..hahahh.

I'm pretty close to my sister, especially since losing my brother to cancer 10 years ago. But i guess we were all always pretty close to eachother. never had any of those family squabbles.

I have two olders sisters.

The one closest in age to me is my best friend.

My older sister is lost to the rest of the family, covered in a shroud of bitterness she wears like iron.

Two sisters, one younger, one older...not close. I refuse to engage in their drama.

Yes and no. We're all on great terms with each other, but I have been geographically separated from them for all of my adult life. We have a great time when we all get together, which is only once every 2-3 years.

We're close in our own Lutheran way. If we're not talking to each other everything is fine. If we're talking, we need each other for something.

A brother one year older and one 5 years younger. We don't call each other up very often, usually just around holidays.

Older brother is in Boise and younger is in Lawton, Ok., so geographically we are not close. But when we do get together, it's as if the years fall away, the jokes and conversation flow like we had just seen each other yesterday. Then we give the younger brother a wedgie and a noogie and it's like we're 12 again.

I am the youngest of three boys (my mom is a saint).

I was super tight with the middle brother... until he moved away and past about seven years ago.

I was never close to the oldest brother... I think mostly just because of the age difference.

To my shame I disconnected from the family for several years... a few years back I sobered up and decided to reconnect with my niece and nephews AND my aging parents so been religious about attending family events and holidays... and it has been working.

Elder brother doesn't talk much, but he is into cars and tech so when we do talk it goes pretty easy.

That's about the way it is between me and my (4) older sisters. We've all gone our own way and have all done relatively well in life. No one has any major health issues (we're all in our 60's). No one has asked to borrow money.
fwiw, my wife was best friends with my oldest sister before we met, and of course she (my wife) is everyone's favorite sister-in-law.

+1 on that comment as well. Well chosen words. Shakespearian!

I have always been disappointed in my one sibling my sister. Now that my Mother has passed away there is not much to keep us together. If she would treat others as she would like to be treated, then I am sure she would be more accepted by me. I have no use for double standards.Great thread, great question.

One brother, three years younger. No negativity, but we also aren't close. Different interests, different levels of motivation to be successful. We tend to text each other on our birthdays and typically visit over the holidays, but that's it. We live two hours away and I can't ever recall him visiting my house, but I'm ok with that.

My wife is the oldest of ten, you could make a reality show about her family.

Just the two of us. I was real close to my sister until she got married. I am sure she thinks the same about me after I got hitched.

There were ten of us, widely spread in age and geography. We managed to get together in one room for Mom and Dad's 50th, then again for their 60th, then for their funerals. Since then, we try to keep in better touch with one another.

The girls and the eldest were the networkers.

In the past four years, we've lost two of my brothers. For the eldest, it seemed appropriate that I, the youngest, fly out to Alberta to be there at the end, along with another brother who lived about 7 hours away from him.

When we are together, the laughs and jokes fly thick and fast. there are often three conversations going on at once, but the flow of conversation eddies through common threads then diverges again. You have to be quick to keep up.

I am truly blessed in my relationships with my siblings. I didn't realize it until I was in my 20s and found out that many of my friends had a brother or sister they couldn't stand to be around. Amazing. In many ways, my brothers and sisters are my best and truest friends.

Best
Les

I'm very close to my sister, wasn't like that as kids and teenage years. Once she was married and had kids our relationship got stronger. I'm happy to say our respective children are very close as cousins as well.

Same here. I am envious of people who have good close relationships with their siblings.
