Buying online.....

I just wanted to say that many of u seem to buy online a lot. For me it has taken a while to trust who I am dealing with. Outside of hotels Pelican Parts is the first one I have done significant business with and will continue to do so because I trust them. It seems that many of u do fine but some don't. I could not imagine buying a car unless I had met the seller in person. Of course because of your location and the size of the country it is more convenient than travelling to meet the seller....
To those who do significant buying like this u have bigger cojones than I do...That is my 5 cents worth! For instance how do you know those rims you are thinking of buying are mint when u are 1k miles away..

Due diligence. When buying on forums, I always look at the seller. Trusted long term forum members are typically trustworthy, newbies with low post counts I tread carefully. If unsure I normally search for their posts, it's amazing how much you can glean just by looking at history. I've never bought a car sight unseen, but I buy a lot of cars from a distance. I typically ask a lot of direct questions, request a lot of photos, negotiate a price contingent on the vehicle being as described, then travel to see it in person. I've wasted my time before, but more often than not I'm happy with the vehicle when I get there. The further the car, the more work I do upfront. I'll gamble on a car two hours away, 10 hours not so much.

With the Pelican brotherhood! One of the members recently checked out a 911 in his hometown of Salt Lake City for a member living in Maryland.

Yeah, pay forward.

I checked a car for someone from Manitoba, drove it, had it on my lift, turnout that the seller was a friend of my best man son...

Upon my recommendation, the buyer had a PPI done it, bought the car, flew down, finalized the sale, stayed at my place overnight. Next morning we drop the car at the shipping company, drop him at the airport and he flew back.

He had a great summer with his SC.

I've looked at cars near me for fellow Pelicans and I'm always glad to do it. So many have helped me here over the past 10 years... I bought an engine from a fellow Pelican, sold an engine to another, bought 4 wheels from another, bought Weber carbs from another, had the car fixed by another Pelican...

Pelican is great for buying and selling, amen to that. I have bought and sold thousands worth of parts and sold two cars to Pelicans. I've had a car looked at that probably saved me from getting scammed, and checked out an SC that was eventually driven back to the E coast. Top notch bunch of people on here.
