So Tell Me About 2001 to 2003 AWD TT 911's...

Been looking on-line and have sourced out several that trip my trigger...whats the downside in terms repair and reliability?

Go for it. Great car. I've not owned one but I have friends that have and never had any serious issues. Most of these were tracked hard.

REPLACE THE TIMING BELT NOW!!!!! (ask me why) Recently sold mine and miss it every day. Everyday driving very comfy, looks great, quattro rocks! Some pretty big blind spots but such a smooth fun car. No more maint. issues than any other german car.

There is no timing belt on a 911 engine

I've heard nothing but positive about the 996TT but never owned one. A note from my normal 996 ownership, take a good look at the interior from 2002 on. They implemented a number of material changes that give it a much more quality look and feel. The older interior I would rate as functional, but the newer ones are really quite nice.

So just how cool is the AWD? I told my Son and he thinks I should get it, put a lift kit on it with some knobby tires, a snorkle and winch and go serious 4-wheeling!

I've had my 2001 996TT for just over a year and love it. A completely different animal compared to my air cooled beauties. I've found rennlist to have a very active forum for the cars. Let me know if you have any questions regarding it.

I recall that , early in its life, Porsche Australia took a SpeedYellow 996TT, raised it, put on some different tyres and drove to the northern most tip of Australia, which is serious 4WD country. The pictures of a supercar fording rivers were memorable.

It was featured in the Porsche magazine.

Great cars, They do everything right. Things to look for: Trans 2nd gear popout. more prevelant on 01's esp. with short shift you can find it on test drive or ppi. Clutch slave and accumulator
fail (2k ish repair) aside from that all normal 10 yo used car issues.
Find a good one, have it checked out, flash it, grin like a fool

This photo is crossing the Todd River at Alice Springs (on bitumen in ankle deep water )

This one is up on Cape York (somewhere)

The Cape York trip was undertaken in 2000, The Simpson Desert trip in the C4S was in 1999. Don't know of any other expeditions since. (sorry for the small hijack. I'll get back in my box now).

Seriously, a 2001-2003 996TT is the most car you can buy for $30-45K. It's an absolute bargain.

A week ago today, a Black 2007 997TT 6 spd with 22K miles sold at auction for $49,500....that may be even better
