Didn't feel like starting a new thread so it goes here:

I bought an infrared BBQ.
I wanted to convert it to natural gas just like my old BBQ.

So I checked out the $70 "conversion kit". It included a hose (already had that), 4 bezels that say "natural gas" on them (doan need that), and some hokey looking tool. Didn't see the need for that.
I used the grill a couple of times and needless to say I was not impressed with the performance of said grill. Didn't get that hot, didn't cook that well. I wunderd if I had been taken.

So I did some digging.
I found the instruction manual for that $70 conversion kit.
CharBroil NG Conversion Kit 4984619

It showed how to connect the hose, already did that. It showed how to change out the bezels, no value added there.

And then ..... it showed how to remove the 4 gas restriction orifices and leave em out (using the hokey tool, which turns out to be a 7 mm socket wrench). It showed how to replace the rotisserie orifice, doan have no rotisserie.

So I removed the 4 orifices (using a 7mm socket and ratchet).
Took maybe 5 minutes, now the darned thing gets HOT!
Had steak and eggs for breakfast this AM.

It cooks like nobody's biddness and I still have that $70 in my pocket.

Lessons learned: Natural gas has less BTUs than propane. Knew that but didn't realize how drastic the difference was.

Charbroil has no problem charging you $70 when all you need is a $15 hose.

The interwebs are a wonderful source of information that can save you $$$ if yer willing to use the search button, they're not just for p0rn.

I have a portable a gas BBQ and it was a useless ass of a thing. BBQs should be HOT, very hot. So I drilled out various "things" along the gas line. Now it's quite good

Don't get me started about gas grills, especially propane models!
