Any interest in a real 2002 996 GT2? A bank in Ohio reposessed this with 19K miles...

A bank in Ohio reposessed this real 2002 996 GT2
Black/Black with yellow seatbelts, lots of Carbon Fiber
19K miles

Grade 4.4 of 5.0

Since the VIN doesn't decode as a GT2, it's listed as a 911 Turbo
Most dealers looking for a GT2 wouldn't find this car
It could go cheap for a GT2

It runs Thursday

Our host offers Cool Carbon pads specifically formulated for the GT2's PCCB rotors for $189.50/pr
Pelican Parts - Product Information: CC-7892-D991

Porsche pads are about $450/pr

I don't see it going that low. I would say that is an $80000 car.

Only if it's a half-price sale.

Ah, no....

Even a "regular" 2002 996TT with 19K miles in Grade 4.4 condition would bring more than $35-40K, wholesale

If this GT2 were all polished up on a dealer's showfloor it would be listed at $69K, minimum. Some dummies ask a lot more.
Earlier this week a dealer with almost the exact same car turned down a $60K offer

If this car went anywhere under $50K it would be a fantastic deal. And it very well could....

So realistically, what should that go for.

Kaisen, you have PMs turned off...

James, I saw your email and responded. Yeah, I turned of the PM function.

It's really hard to say what it WILL bring, and also difficult to say what it SHOULD bring
There just aren't that many of them out there........only 198 2002 GT2s sold in the US (only 317 total over all four years)

It's relatively intrinsic

I think it will hit mid 70's, of course it all depends on who is in the room.

This is another case of a Porsche that offers less costing more because of rarity. In all metrics a standard 996TT with the X50 option is more car for the money but worth much much less.

Kind of like a 964 CSA compared to a Carrera.

Update: My friend Fabryce from GMG Racing has committed to take a run at this one.

I'll let you know what it brings (unless he requests that to remain private). Wish us luck!!

Man, that's tempting. My kids don't need college savings, do they?

One of you needs to throw in a $50k bid just in case. You could drive this for a year and sell for a profit. Imagine all the fun!

IIRC this car has 2wd and drops all the stability control BS and a lot of weight as a result. It is the GT3 of the turbo model.

Prove it. Unless you are too busy researching reasons why drum brakes don't suck.

It's funny when people challenge Eric on automotive issues, especially when facts and figures are involved.

The 996 GT2 isn't just a decontented 996 TT in the same way that a RS America was just a decontented Carrera

George touched on it

Compared to a 996 TT:

Removed all wheel drive system (removed over 150 pounds of hardware)
More power from unique turbos, manifolds, exhaust, ECU, and intercoolers....more power than X50
GT2 engine has it's own code M96.70S M101 (different than 996TT or X50)
Unique fuel pump and oil pump
Stiffer X73 engine/transmission mounts
Stronger gearbox with LSD, unique transmission oil cooler, stronger steel synchros
Threaded coilovers for adjustable height, adjustable rebound, adjustable compression
Adjustable swaybars (5 ways)
Adjustable camber plates
Different forged front uprights/hubs with different geometry, bearings, and bushings
Solid bushings in swaybars, different/harder bushings in control arms
Different steering box with less power assist
Wider solid-spoke (not hollow) wheels, wider tires, factory rolled fender lips, unique fender liners
Unique front nose with increased airflow to coolers and brakes
Unique adjustable rear wing
First PCCB brake application (later available as option on 996TT)
No sunroof
No rear wiper
No rear seats
No traction or stability nannies (no PASM)

It's not just A/C delete, no rear seat, less sound deadening, and a stripe package

This car would have been roughly $190K new
