Installing aftermarket head unit into my Avalanche
Wow, got the kit from Crutchfield to integrate to my car (keep Bose amps and steering wheel controls).
Budgeted 3 hrs for this. It took me that long just to prepare the wiring harness... I welded and shrink tubed everything. Tomorrow I'll do the actual install. Now i must figure out how to bypass the parking brake lockout feature (Pioneer AVH 3400 BH). Apparently a relay is needed (can't just connect to a power source; Pioneers need power not ground). Hope its all worth it in the end.

Get rid of all the Bose components and go Boston Acoustics or Focal. Then it will be worth it in the end.

Agree but this is the utility truck for the family. The good stuff goes into the toys and the music room!

Welded or soldered?
Use a momentary pushbutton for the parking brake. |

Soldered. Sorry.
Could you expand on the push button solution please?

Green Wire? I don't remember if it has to be a normally open or normally closed switch. Sorry but I'd need to pull it all apart to remember what I did.
I think it connects to ground normally, but pushbutton breaks the connection momentarily. Last edited by dad911; 12-23-2012 at 01:00 PM.. |

Peter, those had more relays than a 928....
I completed my install today. Sounds awesome! Added a "micro relay" to address my concern. A suggestion to those thinking of doing this, run the auto eq settings before installing the relay, i cant now 'cause car must be parked to run auto eq.... I have good ears so it was done the old fashion way.....

Spent the better part of a day doing the same thing on a Silverado Classic last year. I don't recall how I avoided the parking brake thing but I did. What an incredible pain in the ass! I've done a lot of stereo installs, that was by far the worst.

Puppy,
I did a mod to my wife's Denali 07, that was a real nightmare. The car has a main wiring harness that runs most everything and you mess with one thing and something else gives up....
