The thread about your other son got me thinking about this one. Any update?

Yes! Jacob was born last month, DNA test came back 99.9% Matthews son. He is healthy and mom and he are doing great. Matt just told me yesterday he is DEPped <sp> into the Army, He goes to Ft Benning in November. He decided to join because he makes minimum wage with no health coverage now and his work hours are being cut so the ... I will avoid the PARF. I am pretty proud of how he has Manned up and taken responsibility for his actions.

jacob is a great looking baby, congratulations crustygramps!

Cute little fella there, crustygramps (that one might stick!)!
Congrats and you have a right to be proud of your son taking responsibility for his actions!

I wish that when I was 18 I was half the man your son is. Be proud.

Good luck to you all.

Awesome and congrats! Bravo to your son and his GF for not taking the "easy way out" and murdering their child. So glad to hear they did the right thing here, hard though it may be.

He is so cute! Congratulations!

Congrats great looking kid. Kudos to your boy for manning up soooo many don't. Long tough road ahead, I was a Dad at 19 so I understand. It can work though I'm still with the same lady, 25 years and 3 kids later. Respect for one another and compromise is key.
Best of luck to all of them.

red911sc 09-28-2013 11:20 AM

Agreed, you have every right to be proud of him. Enjoy being Grandpa, I do.

Por_sha911 09-28-2013 12:35 PM

Congrats

Just a quick update to round this one out.
Matt is turning out to be a great dad. Jacob is getting bigger by the day, He is a very happy little boy.

Ashley and Matt got married on the 11th of Nov.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1384703248.jpg

Today He reports at 1500 to the mustering site here in San Diego for shipment to Ft Benning on the 18th.
Matt says the reality of the Army hasn't hit him yet, I told him " It will become readily apparent when you step off the bus in Benning".
Thanks for all the support, and to my Army brothers and sisters, take care of Matt.

As someone who was a Dad before I should have been what your son has done is stepped up and that is admirble! So many young men shun responcibilities. Good for him and good for you.

I really wish him and her and the lad a great life together. :)

Your gift to Matt was enabling him to become a man.

He wears it well.

Beautiful family, Sandy.

This is such a great result. I am so happy for you and your family. Continued good luck to you. Looks like you did the right thing.

My 14 year old son and I were running some errands on Sunday afternoon. At 1545 Az time, I told him that a friend's son was reporting for duty to enter the Army. We had a great chat about futures and careers.

Looking forward to updates.

Best,
Don

Guess I am late to this thread... which doesn't matter much because I don't have any experience at parenting.

So glad this has a happy ending.

PS: About five years ago one of my best friends daughter got pregnant at 18... he called me for my opinion... he was in the camp of "she is just starting her life, this will ruin everything."
Not sure why he called me because he knows I'm religious and what my answer would be.
Daughter insisted on having the baby.
His granddaughter is now one of the great joys in his life.

As some very wise people have stated here: Need to establish liability (paternity) first and foremost. Then go to Step "B"
