The cop made a bad choice for not reporting shooting the elk, and then trying to process the meat.

But it is Boulder, and as we say:

Poaching is poaching. Hold them to the same standards (laws and penalties) as us normal folks.

Could have been avoided if they had just bought the tags. So sad.

The location where the Elk was shot is no more than 6 or 8 blocks from open space that borders on Rocky Mtn National Park... I think it is reasonable for them to expect some wandering wildlife every once in a while.
Boulder folks are pretty militant about these kinds of issues... I don't think that they would be the type to feed Elk, Bear, or whatever else might come out of the park.

I do wonder why it couldn't be tranquilized and relocated... I mean, if the guy can get a dead elk back to his house, surely he could have driven a sedated elk back up into Nederland.

Boulder is about 45 miles from Rocky Mountain NP, so your Geography is not correct. It was a few blocks from the mouth of Sunshine Canyon...

Both officers arrested and back out on bond. Reading the texts they sent each other, it certainly sounds like it was planned from the start to kill the elk for personal gain. What Idiots.

My point was that the area West of where the Elk was shot is sparsely populated and connected to Rocky Mtn by way of parks like Betasso and Boulder Mountain.

Good to see these guys won't get away with this.

I personally think it's a good idea to herd all the extremists into one area, makes em easier to track.
