Geico and Progressive Insurance

Any of you use either? I am going to switch from Allstate as I recently checked prices for the policies. We own a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT and a 2008 Audi A4 2.0T. Allstate is charging us $1,150 for a 6 month policy bundled with homeowners insurance. Geico is about $300 and Progressive is about $450 for the same policy and period.

I was shocked at the difference. I wonder if their is any difference with the claims process between the three companies. I have not submitted one claim to Allstate since we started our policies 13 years ago. I would love to hear your opinions on this.

I have been hit be a Geico driver, and had no issue with claims.

I used to be with Progressive, TWICE they put an at fault accident on my record and tried to over charge me. I think they eventually got sued for it, so they may not be doing that anymore. It was a hassle, I left them for all state.

We switched to 21century. They are connected to Farmers, which is where we have out Home insurance. Combined we have policy discounts.

I would NEVER use Progressive, again.

I remember when I got my 83 944 in the mid 90's. Went with Progressive. After I had the policy for a few weeks I got another bill from them for about three times the quoted rates. Said the 944 was high performance. Told them no way. They threatened to sue. Told em to pack sand. Never heard from them again and did get my money back. Been with Geico for about three years. No claims, but their customer service is A+. I think I'm paying about $150 every 6 months for my 85 944, and that's full coverage. We have 4 other vehicles and renters with them. Sometimes being over 55 is a good thing!

Geico = good, Progressive = bad.

I've had Geico for 15 years, with 3 claims, and never a problem even one time when it was really bad.

Apparently you have not read Progressive's reviews on the internet, or you wouldn't be asking this question.

Went to progressive after state farm dropped us... no issues.

Did have a driver who was on progressive go thru my fence... I never even called them, but an adjuster/claim guy stopped by 2 days later asking if we needed to have $$ to replace anything.... *that* impressed me.

Geico for about 10 years, couldn't be happier. The absolute best telephone customer service, bar none. Never a wait time, always an American on the line who can help without transferring you. My car swapping is well known, I call them a LOT to add or drop insurance. One minor hail claim and one roadside assistance call were handled without issue, and no rate hike.

Geico rocks. 10 year customer. Like whippedpup says, you call, and you get a human being on the phone who is empowered to fix problems, and they do. Great customer service.

What everyone else said about Geico...I just switched "back" (after a 20 year hiatus...long story). Haggerty for the 911. I wouldn't even consider Progressive just because of their idiotic TV commercials

If they can afford to plaster stupidly annoying commercials all over every channel hitting several times per show, I figure they're charging more than they need in order to pay for their advertising budget. I refuse to pay for their commercials.

That and the fact that progressive is owned by an un-Amercian POS .......

My Jeep XJ was rear-ended by a drunken Muslim - he sped off.
Damaged bumper, surrounding area including rear door damage.
Bent exhaust pipe, hanger, & other braces underneath.
Progressive agent (angry b!tch) showed up w/computer & printer on-board...took a quick look, made notes, sat in her SUV for 10 min.s., came out w/a check.
I told her about the underneath damage, she said, "I can't very will get under there wearing high heels & a skirt.
I placed a 5' mirror on the driveway & pointed out all the damage - she cut another check for $810 more.
A few months later, I took my homeowner's, 3 vehicles & 7 motorcycles & to different company.
F 'em.

contact the Ins. Commission in your state and ask for any ratings or complaint summaries for auto insurers

You will find those co.s pretty low on service.

You will find USAA best, closely followed by Amica.

From the Huffington Post about the infamous Progressive lawsuit all over the internet. Matt Fisher Outraged By Progressive Insurance Defending Sister's Killer (2nd UPDATE)

Isn't Geico a Warren Buffet/Berkshire company?

I thought Geico stood for Government Employee Insurance Company. I love their commercials. Progressive not so much. But, I am insured with State Farm for a long time, my brother is my agent.

Progressive offers you discounts for installing a vehicle tracking system. No thanks.

Geico is fine - I use them now. I've had progressive in the past and they suck donkey cock. I'd never ever use them ever again even if they paid me. Good only for motorcycle "liability only" coverage; I'd never expect them to actually pay out a claim but on a motorcycle what's the point anyway?

Don't EVER get progressive for a car. Ever.

Have been hit by a progressive customer - totaled vehicle and minor injuries. No insurance company pays out readily and easily, but the tactics by the progressive adjuster were 150% used car salesman BS. I am not easily impressed by BS and know the law, so I ended up wearing them out and got a settlement I agreed with. After that experience I memorized two things:

1) Don't give Progressive any money.
2) I now understand why people hire ambulance chasing lawyers.

Cheers,

G

I had to file a complaint with the Georgia Insurance Commissioners office to get Progressive to pay a claim where we sent out 1 half million dollar fire truck, and 12 firefighters. A car they insured was on fire, totally on fire. In the end, after the investigation, many phone calls, letters, etc they paid a 500.00 claim.
Find anyone but Progressive. Why they are allowed to do business in Georgia is beyond me.
