Hep IDing ASAF Aircraft
Every time I go to St. Louis, I see these two parked at the North end of Mid America Airport. The one on the right is, I believe a C 141. But I can't figure out what the one on the left is! it's driving me nuts. Any Help? Plus, a KC 135 was out playing in the skies today. It's awesome sitting in the rest area watching them fly over, do a touch and go, and pour out the black smoke while gaining altitude again.

Looks like a KC-135 that still has JT3D's on it.

Jrboulder, the 135s are MUCH bigger than that plane. Not really much of a sense of scale to go by in the pic. The only thing I've found that's even close is a KC 707.

Looks like a KC 135 tanker, and a C5 Galaxcy.

Add a bigger pic for a better sense of scale.

KC-135A, to be more precise. "Water wagon." (I have 2500 hours in the KC-135R.) Must be for a possible museum there? The other jet is a C-141B.

Well, the general consensus is that it's a KC 135. It just looks SO much smaller than the ones I see in the air. Thanks for the help!
BE911SC, I don't "think" they are setting up a museum. I would love it if they did though.

Many, many years ago I was contracted to overhaul/upgrade all the HVAC blowers up in the rafters of the building where Douglas built the KC10s. (military tanker version of DC10).
Spent over a month up there looking down as the planes rolled through the assembly line. it looked like nothing was being done, but slowly the planes would get more and more complete. Good stuff. BTW the insurance bond we were required to have in case someone dropped something on an employee or one of the planes was HUGE! $$$$$$$$$ |
