If a new car dealer in your past....

provided you with a car that was later a POS and subsequently lied that there was no problem with it, what makes and models would qualify for this?
MY examples:
1. Chrysler 95 AWD van transmission went on it.Chrysler Company said there were no problems with it. To their credit they did fix it outside of the warranty.
2.2005 Nissan Xtrail(small suv) that has rust on the wheel wells within warranty period but would not honor warranty due warranty interpretation. Car is good mechanically though. Has 50k miles and still have it.

2006 Nissan Altima 2.5S: My DD for sales. The entire front air-dam has torn off at speed, twice. In discussing with the dealer they assured me it was my driving, not that the little plastic push-tabs were always falling out. Replaced entire seized steering rack at 72k. Front struts are completely shot at 85k. I replaced oil pan as it was rusting through.

I wouldn't call it a total POS, but I was disappointed in the unprofessional way the dealer dealt with a problem on my new '95 Dodge van. The water temperature gauge never got into the "normal" range. I took it in and they checked it over, said the water temp was OK, heater works, no problem. I pointed out that if everything is OK why is the gauge always reading low and they said it's just a gauge problem don't worry about it. They never offered to fix it. I took it to another dealer and had the gauge replaced.

Dealer sold me a no warranty low miles "owned by old people" Mini van that for a year was nothing but a money pit. After a year of this I went back and made them buy it back less a few bucks for my use. I couldn't believe they did it..but hey this is the country.

The last time I had a car under warranty in my 1974 914 2.0

The headliner just started drooping down. The seat belt interlock would make the entire car shut down even when buckled up. I made the dealer fix those problems and then removed the interlock system completly. I always buckle up.

I had a Jeep Comanche truck that was a complete pos at first and was my first (and last) new vehicle.
Right off the lot the engine was consuming antifreeze. They did the head gasket.
Clutch was problematic and occasionally the truck wouldn't go into gear after driving in traffic. Clutch pedal assembly was replaced. Didn't help.
Of course the dealer was unable to replicate the problem and told me to learn to drive a standard properly......
Finally I had some time off and drove the truck around until the problem re occurred. Took it to a different dealership and drove it into there service bay and left the truck running. A service writer (dork head) that was working at the previous dealership was now working at that new dealership.
The asshat screamed at me to shut off the truck in the bay and I yelled back to him to get in it and try to put that pos into gear.
He was putting so much force on the shifter I thought he was going to break it.
In the meantime, the shop service manager comes out to see what the problem is, watches the asshat struggling to put the truck into gear. The service manager looks at me and says I know what is wrong and we will fix it.
Never had another problem with that truck again and never owned another Dodge/Jeep product again either.

2004 Cadillac SRX that was our family car, had a clunk due to excessive gear lash in the transfer case. The fix was an updated transfer case, covered by a TSB and well documented online. Took it into the dealership, they first claimed that they had no idea what I was talking about and couldn't find it in their system. Once I produced the TSB they miraculously found it. The service manager drove it with me and acknowledged the clunk, but also claimed "they all do that". He then claimed that he thought my early build SRX probably had the new transfer case, and that his mechanic would verify the PN. I knew it had the old one because I had already checked the part number on the case, but I decided to humor them. The mechanic took the car back to his bay, then I saw him walking back into the office area. He then comes out to the service manager and I with a printout showing the new part number, claiming that this was the PN on my car. I went ballistic at this point, and told him he was a liar because I had already checked the part number. The mechanic admitted his lie, but the service manager just made excuses for him. After heated conversation the service manager offered to tear down the transfer case to inspect, but if everything was to spec they would have to charge me for their time. Remember, the car is still under warranty. I tried to explain that it was a DESIGN FLAW (read your effing TSB) and that the parts would be to spec, and that the updated part needed to be fit. By that point I was just beating my head against the wall, so I left and sold the car shortly thereafter. I submitted my story to dealership management as well as everyone at Cadillac that I could find, but was ignored. One reason why Cadillac will struggle to become a true premium make - you get the same crappy service as the customer with the $14,000 Chevy Sonic.

Matt, that's hideous. I know that they're in business to make a profit but wow...I would have been ripping people's faces off. You could travel deep into any ghetto and never find people as slimy as that.

Unbelievable.

Transmissions on most Grand Caravans/Town and Countrys of that vintage only last for around 100k (something about a small pin in the trans that lets go and causes failure.) We replaced ours with a junkyard unit that lasted another 50k. Last time we spent the $1,500 and had it rebuilt and the van currently has over 200k on it.

Last Nissan anyone in our family owned was a new Sentra with a 5spd. The clutch would only last roughly 2 to 4k miles. Nissan replaced the clutch under warranty but refused to machine the flywheel. This went on a couple of times before we had another mechanic take it apart and machine the flywheel. The clutch held for another 50k until we sold the car. Still don't understand why they wouldn't fix it correctly. Haven't bought a Nissan since.

It was baffling, as GM would have paid them to do the work. They were concerned that the issue wasn't "justified" and that GM wouldn't cover the work, yet there was a TSB on the issue. I took it to another dealership that was at least honest with me, but also not willing to tackle the problem. Bottom line - the car was under warranty, both shops acknowledged that there was an issue, yet neither was willing to do anything about it. Simply stunning......

I see this, BTW, as a huge problem facing Cadillac. Our local dealership, as with most, is coupled with other non-premium GM brands. Same salesmen, same showroom, same service department. While Cadillac generally makes nice cars, the rest of the experience is no different than buying an economy car. Our Lexus dealership is standalone and top notch. Mercedes, Porsche, Acura, and Jaguar are all together at another dealership that also offers excellent service. Every aspect of the experience at one of these other premium dealerships is a notch above the normal car buying experience, vastly superior to what you receive at Cadillac.

my first new car.

1984 4 cylinder jeep cherokee. i should have lit that thing on fire. driving to california, going up the "grapevine" (big long steep hill, just north of LA) i found myself in the far right lane with the big rigs. that thing was gutless!! i had to go the same speed as the fully loaded big rigs!! of course this was compounded my my own dumbass need to lift it and put it on 31" tall mud terrains.

young, dumb and full of................i was a fool.
