For the record, I don't think I was ever treated badly in PARF. Disagreements are the nature of the beast there. In OT, my presence was less than welcome to some... Not entirely sure why.

I remember when I first got my Porsche and needed a few questions answered on the tech forum section. I noticed someone asking questions about aligning their 911. Now, I know alignment - really, really well, however I was treated as though I was just a dumb girl with no real relevance. That ended that little bit of helpful commentary from me, there are few things I hate more than being treated as 'dumb' about cars just because of my gender. One of my favorite things when I am at trade shows, 'manning' the booth is when a guy 'chit chats' with me, always looking over at the guys, waiting to ask them a question, then the work guy says - "oh, you need to ask.... she knows". ;) |
jferr006...
You are in the 1% being female out here. Porsches/BMW's are typically a male thing. Doesn't make sense today but still... you might be looked at as an outsider. Silly, I know. The only reason you or anyone else gets beat down on OT shouldn't happen. That is for PARF. Off Topic is a non-gender place where sports car owners want to talk about something besides sports cars. No fighting. Just showing stuff. Simple. Welcome. Please, take it from me... don't go to PARF. Hundreds if not thousands of web sites offer that kind of crap. If you love your 944... stay away from PARF. |
Annoying but, to be expected unfortunately. As far as I'm concerned any thread about T&A automatically pertain to me and I can comment on as I see fit. :)
PARF or OT it's a very interesting forum.:) |

Actually, PARF has been mild, almost boring lately. A couple of posters with the worst behavior seem to be AWOL. The only real ugly personal insults are in the never-ending "Does God exist" thread. I am shocked by the level of anger there...considering the topic. Most people I know are pretty ambivalent regarding religion.
If I didn't have a couple hours on the train each day to kill...I would probably lose interest. I have to go out of town for a while soon and probably will not miss it. |
PARF is the "assault weapon" of OT. Some are responsible and treat it with respect, then there are some who are nucking futz and should not be allowed within a 100 yards of it, much less look at it.
|
I like politics, especially when it comes from stupid Dems and Reps. I lambast them all. I used to like PARF for polite, considered political discussions; most of that discourse has gone down the toilet.
As I'm sure many of you know, my pet peeve is taxes. You can give me all the arguments you want, but you aren't ever going to convince me that I need to feel like I should pay more taxes. |

Usually if I make a post on PARF, I wind up being called a "Troll". Many times on PARF I have been called much worse. :D |
I think it comes down to the whole internet anonimity thing. "I dont know you so , I dont have to respect you."
My firehouse is probably the most non PC place there is. Nothing is sacred. Not your mother, your wife , sister, kids etc... your ethnicity, race, and so on. All are targets to be poked fun at. But we know its all in fun and dont take any of it to heart. You have a slew of type A alpha personalities with a slew of different views and opinions on everything. But we all have the utmost respect for eachothers views and opinions as much as we may disagree with eachother, and dont run into the nonsense that we see over in parf. |

This thread cracks me up.
People pay a visit to parf and suggest the rights or money of other people need to be taken away, and then they act all surprised when people react negatively. Everybody else needs to pay more taxes. Everybody else needs to pay my way. Everybody else needs to stop believing in their religion. Everybody else needs to give up their 2nd amendment rights. Everybody else needs to be PC and pretend things are not really the way they are. Gee, I wonder why that would result in energetic and passionate responses? And while we're at it, we now have a collection of posts complaining about name calling in PARF, in a thread that is bashing the people who are supposedly calling names. Hmmm, Ya might wanna google the word "hypocrite" and put on your big boy pants for a change. The bottom line is people go over there with some fantasy pretend notions that they've been taught are the proper thnigs to say and they get all shocked when they get slapped in the face with reality. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360160891.jpg |
Through a combination of circumstances, my user name on ebay became Auntpow. People think I'm someone's auntie. I get talked down to a lot over there. It is so amusing that I never changed my user name. There is definitely a difference in the way genders are treated, and it's noticeable here.

Have to agree with Sammy on this one. There are some real bomb throwers in PARF who seem astounded and offended (aka butthurt) that others disagree with them and are passionate in their beliefs.
I don't get real passionate about discussing the source of an oil leak on my 993 (yes, I still own a Porsche, but it never leaks;)) in the tech forum. But call me a racist for disagreeing with the POTUS on a policy issue, tell me I should have to register my guns, tell me I owe you free birth control, and you shouldn't be surprised that anyone replies with more than a "I respectfully disagree." |

Two things I am used to, whining little boys and a hardcore Republican husband. That covers most of the bases here. I'm assumming the chicks that stick around are tough enough to handle the crowd.

The presence of females here is needed and appreciated.

I enjoy an intelligent debate and certainly don't mind a passionate discourse of differing opinions. The two things that drive me nuts (a very short trip) about PARF is when
-people attack the person instead of the opinion -when inevitably most threads turn into a pissing match between two trolls who sit and bash one another in elementary school style name calling  I try to remember that at that point its time to bow out since "you can't out-stink a skunk". A friend of mine puts it this way: Never wrestle with a pig. You'll both get dirty and the pig loves it. When a troll resorts to the above tactics directed toward me, I have resolved to point out that their argument is not enhanced by name calling. They usually go away after that. So, to all those that disagree with me: You are obviously a moronic imbecile who is too stupid to realize that I am right. God bless you, you poopy-head! |
