this happened to me in the desert one time - took an hour to hike to the road head, another hour or two to drive to the nearest hospital/ER

but the fun was just starting as they then did stress or compression X-rays on me

- BTW, birds are superior to mammals in many regards and this is one of them - no stones pissed our for them

My last one was September 11, 2001, I was on Demerol and writhing for most of the time in spite of the drug.

When it finally passed and I was able to think clearly, the nurse said there had been a strange aircraft accident in New York...and then the second one hit. I spent the rest of the day in horror, wishing that I was still on Demerol to deaden the pain of the attacks.

Anyway, doctor told me to drink more water which I have religiously done since. Two good things have happened, one is that I have not yet had another stone (as opposed to the 4 I had before Sept 11) and my incidence of flu's and colds has gone waaaaay down (from 3 or 4 per year to perhaps 1 per year).

Doc figured I was just frequently dehydrated which is the ideal method to create Agony.

D.

PS - Niece passed a stone about 6 months before giving birth...she rated the stone as the more painful experience of the two by far......

Glad everything came out Ok!

Had one a few years ago: simple calcium. I had intense pain that came in waves. Thought I was dying of...something. Once they figured out what it was, they dosed me with some superweight pain meds awaiting the arrival of the urologist. I went in for surgery but no scalpels were used. He went in the out door with a basket and grabbed it. I'm so very glad I was out cold. He then installed a stent in the ureter that ended in the badder. I felt that stent poking me in the bladder for a week. Unfortunately, I wasn't out cold for the stent removal. It wasn't painful but extremely uncomfortable.

Still, as painful as it was, I've felt worse in the dentist chair when I received a Novocain shot into an abscessed tooth. Now, that was simply Medieval torture.
