Memory Lane with HP computers

Was looking at a used HP plotter and found this site.
Love or growl them, thought it interesting.

1966-1991. Sounds about right- their golden era.

Pretty much anything they make marketed to "home office" means trash.

HP sucks..

One of the finest "back in the day"...I remember working with HP logical analyzers (hooked probes right on the data/communications "bus") while in IBM's r&d labs back in the mid-80s...cool as could be . Of course they cost around $200K each so they weren't exactly "home office" either .

HP200LX - this is how I used to get my email, read newsgroups, etc. Carried an acoustic coupler, could dial into Compuserve from a phone anywhere in the world at 300 baud. Great machines.

I remember helping a friend change the video card in his HP workstation at a local school back in the day. That thing was built like it was ready for a space mission. It was rugged and well engineered. Then HP lost it's way.

best development environment I ever used was hp Tech BASIC on one of their low end workstations - plug in a ROM and you got APL added right onto BASIC

I think this is rather inaccurate.

HP business customer service was the most dedicated experience I've ever experienced semi-recently.
I do not say that lightly of corporations.

My experience with an HP laptop and their customer service on several occasions was bad enough that I will not even consider another HP product. Too many fish in the sea to tolerate cheap products and bad service.

I'm sure the business class is OK. The big-box home office stuff, any of it I won't touch with a 10 foot pole.

It's garbage, just like their executive management.

I believe that's the exact same one that I had. Sadly I wasn't that creative.

They've learned to sell liquid gold quite well.... printer ink that is.

I agree in part.
Business vs. personal= Night vs. day

Personal customer service side: People who weren't familiar with the foreign "queens language", and were "very busy" at the moment.

Business customer service side: Very competent young people in N.Dakota or Iowa who spent several hours, waived costs outside of warranty, and then made double sure the problem was fixed. Sold.
Above and beyond.

Again, I don't praise lightly.
