dumb-azz #22 thru the fence
Fence caught another one last night, 12:27am. Didn't seem drunk, claimed to have swerved to avoid a rabbit... impacted hard enough to loosen his body kit, cracked his radiator, and was moving fast enough and stopped fast enough that the negative terminal was torn off the battery.
Wife just called, he's at the house now to get his car back and has wood to repair my fence. ![]() ![]()

A well-reinforced brick wall there would be pretty cool.

Another bad driver. At least he plans to fix the fence.
A friend of mine had several cars visit his front yard. He tried planting a tree but before it could get big enough another fool would smash into it and flatten it. He finally spent a weekend with a front end loader and built a raised planter box with several truck loads of gravel and dirt with RR ties and it looks nice. It has stopped another car since then. It cost a chunk of change but his house is safe now.

24" worth of reinforced concrete faced with brick to look pretty. Maybe dig a trench for good measure.
![]() How old was this guy? When in high school I "swerved to avoid a dog" and tore up my suspension on a curb, then later "swerved to avoid a deer" and took out a guy's decorative brick post. Damn animals are EVERYWHERE! ![]()

Has your fence really been hit 22 times?

Guy was in mid to late 20s... Fortunately, our house is another 50 yards past the fence, and there is lots of stuff in the way. If he had been over to the north a little more, he would've impacted the oak tree you can see the end of laying on the ground... a little more to the south, and he would've met 2 large juniper trees and then exited out the yard on our south side. As you can see, the road is higher, and there is a little bit of a ditch and then our yard rises up a tad again.
In all, I feel the yard does a good enough job of protecting the house... I just wish the county would get off its butt and re-fresh the drunk rumble strips on the road, and maybe consider adding a flashing light. Wife is on the phone right now, apparently the Highway Patrol drove by and noticed, or got a report from a 3rd party. Yay! More paper work!

Yup. One death (after we closed but before we moved in), and one guy has hit the fence 3 times. He gets further thru the curve each time though! Only one motorcycle - I posted about him last time, a few months ago.

Looks like understeer to me.
You might want to put something there that is more substantial if there is a chance that one drunk driver could end up in your home. Nothing like a tree or brick wall that would cause injury or death but something like a raised mound with some plants or mulch. Something to slow them down and is easier to repair. |

swerved to avoid a rabbit, yeah, you won't see that on my report.
five more feet right and it would be a different looking car. |

Isn't it safer/easier to just run over the animal vs. swerving to avoid them?

It probably is, but I don't think that is the first and reflexive response of most drivers.

Gravel trap.....
I'd tell him after he fixes the fence to plant some new grass.... What's the speed limit? I'd be asking the town/county to put up some reflective signs. |

more of those logs/trees right behind the fence shouldn't cost a lot, looks like you would only need a few for that curve.
we had a new group of coyotes move into our area and the rabbit population has taken a big hit. |

More importantly, it changes from a comprehensive (no fault) to a collision (your fault) insurance claim. Don't wreck your car avoiding Bambi.
