I hear my wife on the phone all day long to her single girlfriends....If you take the 930, all her friends in a six state radius will hear about it (and nothing else) with-in a hour of her getting home.

Where do you want this relationship to go? If you want something quick and easy, drive the 930. If you want to see what she's really made of, drive the Japanese VW....

Back in the day of Rice and Roses I had this dilemma with a Celica Alltrac vs. smelly work truck. I chose the Celica which was low key to me but she was a farm girl who'd only driven Toyota pick ups and it was funny hearing stuff like..

"This car is so low, how do you see out of it?"

"Wow, this car has some beans." (after boosting it up a bit to make a green light)

"This car is smooth in corners."

I must've made the right choice as we're still married 10 years later. Still have the Celica and it has a spot on the cowl below the windshield where some white shoe polish specks still reside from our wedding drive-off. I refuse to wash them off.

Honest answer is that you have two really horseschit first date cars, albeit for different reasons. Head down to Enterprise and rent a new car for the night. Almost anything will do, as long as it's nice/new and non-descript. You don't want your car to make any impression one way or the other, women judge us by a lot of strange criteria that makes no sense to men.

Believe it or not, if you had a date with some "10" of any age in L.A., a new Prius is what you'd want. It's the best-selling vehicle in CA., (I schit you not), and it says all the right things. I.E., "I care about the environment/I can afford a new car/I'm not some creep driving a weird car to front something..."

Otherwise drive the Rodeo for sure. I can't imagine a worse car for a first impression than some 1980s status symbol with huge flairs and wings, etc.. Even a new 991 would not be a great car for this purpose. It says that you have a little $$ or credit but also says insecure or a wannabe playboy. It sucks but I've found out through direct recon that a Porsche is a big turn-off for most women.

doesnt matter what you drive on that first date..

just make sure whatever it is, it is clean inside and out.

clean the house too!! (just in case). take down the old tube socks you use as towels, and pull out that hermetically sealed bag of matching towels out and lay them out proudly. i'd change the sheets just in case too..!!

Yes, because nothing says, "I'm rich", like a 30 year old Porsche.

Depends. Pretty sure the vast majority of Jay Leno's cars are not exactly new...but try buying one of them if you're not "rich."

And FWIW, I never think about which car I should drive to a first date (though, I'm married now, so I better not be driving ANY of my cars to a first date...). I drive what I feel like driving. Gold diggers are easy enough to spot if you're not completely retarded; don't let that hinder you having fun with whatever flavor car you're in the mood for that evening.

Wait, a first date and this girl is letting you pick her up at home? Major red flag there... if you're just meeting somewhere, why make such an issue of it. She probably won't see your car, anyway.

And why is that a major red flag? I know some women today are quite skittish about this because of the "creepers" amongst us...but some people like the old skool traditionalism of picking a lady up at home. From what I gathered from the OP, it seems like they already know each other, anyway.

Most women I know consider an old Porsche a cramped, uncomfortable, and noisy car with no interior door handles.

From a practical standpoint the 930 is good for show... but the Rodeo... has a more comfortable ride... nod, nod, wink, wink...
