Pool tables...Pelican trust help
I've been working on my basement and I'm at a moment of indecision.
I have a pool table, which was a fraternity house rescue and free. But there is no stone or slatron. It is not cosmetically in great shape but it is all wood and is very level. Money is an object, but that's why I have a free table in my basement. But what do I do? Buy a set of slate? Go with an alternative? Don't waste my time with it and dump it? Turn it into a craft or table tennis station? -4 x 8 foot -rails in decent shape -pattern for holes perhaps standard, but what if it is not? -wood frame, but not antique or sentimental. See pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I would just pick up a new slate and recover it. Looks like a good table. Any idea of the brand?

My set is three pieces holes under rails to fasten to frame.
Then i think they used some sort of plaster stuff to level the cracks pretty simple.

I was just on another site which said a replacement slate requires sending all rails in so they can custom fit the stone. I guess there is nothing further to do other than shell out the dough.

I miss having a pool table. Even a warped POS is fun. My brother & I talked my parents into buying a cheap one when I was about 15. Good memories.

How much space are you going to have between the wall and the table? Ideally, you want up to 58" of stick space, so I hear. 36" at a minimum. So I hear.

I notice there is a pool table mechanic's directory at the top of the page here.
Talk To A Mechanic - AzBilliards Forums Frankly, no slate..no clue about the brand? I'd definitely consult a pro...it might be a better move to buy a new table. You can buy a new Valley bar table for around a grand...The rails look like an Olhausen to me, but don't take that as gospel. Olhausen kind of an "entry level" brand...so looks to me like you have a 944 of pool tables there. One with a bad engine and 200,000 miles on all other components.

Looks like 60" on the long wall and 50" on the short interior stair/closet wall. Good thing to note.

If 50" wall clearance is the best you can do? Find somebody to give it to...or learn really good cue ball control and always leave your opponent on the rail closest to the wall.

I don't understand... The only restraint is a width that is 13'-6" and that only exists for 2' of the playing table. See pic upper left side.

Hi Dean...you ever get that SW cue?
Doug...with respect to "Scotty"...I kinna exceed the laws of physics, captn'! Ideal set up is room beyond the standard 58" cue length because for shots off the rail the shooter needs to line up body parts beyond that. Dean also nailed it. A shooter with even basic cue ball control could make you miserable by playing safety with the cue ball left in that area until your poor shots gave him an easy run out.

Paul... still waiting, should get my order form in a few months. I'm hoping sooner, I only ordered it in December 2002. Laurie's not happy that I want it wrapless. If I ask for an ebony nosepiece, she will even be less happy.
I was offered $500 for my spot. Should have countered. $1000 will buy it from me. Dean

I've been toying with the idea of having a stacked leather wrap done on my Josey, but don't want to shoot with another cue during the time it would take to do. Being a pool hall junkie ain't easy... ![]()
