Agree 100% Jim, Thanks Thats what I thought as well.... That being said, Kharma is real. About 3 weeks ago I agreed to purchase a bike about 5 hours away from me. the very next day after making a verbal agreement (without even a deposit), A friend found the same bike for sale literally 5 minutes from my house. I went and looked at the bike.....I would have bought it in a second had it not been for my previous agreement. It definately would have been more convienent. But it just didnt sit right with me. I'd given the first gentleman my word and that means something to me. I drove 5 hours picked up the bike and have been having a blast playing in the dirt for the last two weeks.. Heres how the second motorcycle deal last week ended up paning out....The dealer ended up taking care of me big time. The dealer got me another bike for less then the already over MSRP price i was going to pay for the slightly used (63 miles) other one and its brand new. I even get to open the crate when it arrives to the dealer....I called all over the country trying to find this bike after the deal started going south and was told forget it not a chance, youll have to order a 2014. Sorry Rick, didn't mean to thread jack. But like some have said. You did what made it right for you. Kudos to you...

It is honorable that you are doing the right thing by either returning the wheels, or paying the difference, but I believe this kid's job is on the line when his boss finds out what has been happening. |

First thing I thought of was that the kid was selling things that don't belong to him. Oh no no need to talk to the boss!!! Yeah right, I think you just bought four stolen rims my friend.......

If they are stolen wheels, then you are in possession of stolen property.

Well, the wheels are gone. It pained me to unload them into his truck but I did it.
Get this, after I tell the guy I have decided to bail him out and let him get the wheels back I tell him that I had the tires unmounted in preparation for shipping. The guy has the balls to ask me if I can get the tires remounted before I bring them to him! I almost hung up right there. I took a deep breath and told him no, although my tone probably said "Are you kidding me?" Amazing.

I think you did the right thing.
We have evolved into a dog-eat-dog country with too much focus on "money" at the expense of ethics. Can you ever trust anyone to do the right thing? Every week I read story's about how someone was screwed by a "trusted" advisor, friend, consultant etc. usually for a few bucks. There was a story in another post awhile back, about how someone was asked to look at a car and help them make a decisoin about what to do. The poster is then bragging about getting the car for about 20% of its value - rather than tell The owner what they had and what it was worth. I wonder if the seller knew how they were being screwed?

If the guy you dealt with is legit, I bet the way he was going to work it out with the customer was to do some work for him outside the shop.
Hopefully, the wheels weren't stolen, but at least now you don't have to be concerned about that. As I was reading through the posts and saw you decided to take them back, I was hoping he wasn't going to scam you by giving you the old "Oh man, I'm sorry but I didn't have time to get by the bank, and my boss won't let me leave now... is a check okay?" when you got there. And then the check doesn't clear.

He asked if a check would be ok over the phone and I told him very clearly that cash was the only way this was getting done.

I'd have done the same. Could he be lying or scamming? yes. But we can only control OUR actions and decisions. I try to do right, even if I know I could be getting hosed. But the world has a way of sorting out the rest.
I do think you should call the manager though. If that kid is stealing parts and selling them, then he shouldn't be getting away with it by virtue of you "saving" him. I've worked in small businesses where we've really struggled with inside theft, and it's a bastard of a thing to have an employee you SUSPECT is stealing. Your info might be all he needs to put it to rest
