How long is your daily commute?

... and how does it compare to the average for your area?

Stumbled upon this interesting app that relies on census data. You can switch to your zip code in the upper right, and mouse over different areas to get the underlying averages:

Takes me about 25 minutes or so, depending on the lights. Of course, that's on a bicycle...

(that's a way cool app!)

Now 22mi, 25-30 mins. Most of my commutes in the last 12-15 years have been about 25ish miles, but I did have a few years of 11 miles and a few months of 35 miles.

I used to do 50 miles, 50 minutes each way for three years. That started killing me so I switched to 2 miles, 5 minutes and am much happier.

Its amazing the way it can change your life.

35 mile drive door to door. About an hour each way on a good day.
But I take a different route every day just to break up the monotony

How long is your daily commute?

8.5 miles. Between 10 to 14 minutes depending on the two light I go through. For 25 years it was just 3/4 of a mile. One day I made that trip from start to stop in 55 seconds.

10 minutes. Which really sucks, because when I bought the house, it was 3 minutes.

It used to be 45 to 50 minutes.

Now I've got it down to 60 seconds - seriously, I'm full time renovating the house next door.

I work in two locations depending on the day. The shorter one is about 15-18 mins by car and the longer one is 45 mins there and about an hour home. I make up for it by working virual or a closer hoteling station which is only 8 mins away

I once did a 1h 10 min average (one way) commute. It was killing me. I like to be within 30 min or less. Like Tom says, it is life changing. Big commutes are huge black holes, sucking up 50% of your spare time. NO thanks.

Note - if you have a solid 8h job, it may be a little different. But if you find yourself at work 9+ hours, your day is done with a long commute on top of that.

I like my commute. Sometimes I take the long way just for the drive.
If I don't spend at least 20 to 30 minutes driving before and after work, I'll go crazier.
I do a lot of work in my neighborhood. I'll leave my house and go for a 20 minute drive before I come back and work across the street.
Driving is good, silence is good.

If I hit the lights right, I can make it in the car in about 5-7 minutes, on a bicycle 15, maybe 20 minutes. The speed limit is not higher than 40 mph, all surface streets, couple miles, not including any trips to the hospital.

Since last November, on Friday afternoons, I have been covering the office of a gal that is out on maternity leave. That is about 25 miles one way from my office. 30 minutes to drive down there at noon, over an hour driving home during rush hour. She is not due until April, been on bed rest. If I were going to be doing that crap much longer, I would go borrow a motorcycle from one of my brothers.

About 70 minutes door to door - 1/2 car, 1/2 train.

Roughly 30 mins. All back country twistie roads. I like the commute, I can settle down in my own little music filled bubble, enjoy some fun driving and just let work fade away before I hit the door.
