I stopped buying the SI Swimsuit edition, now I just look at it on the internet. Is that a crisis?

I'm waiting on my mid-life crisis...'cause if it happens this week it'll mean I'm living to age 110.

Dueller I believe you are single. So does it really matter if you have a mid life crisis when you are single? You have free rein to cut a wide swath anyway as it does not impact on anybody except yourself. Just my .05 cents worth....

Sorta like the age old philosophical riddle: If a man is in the woods alone and says something is he still wrong if there's no woman there to hear him?

I was thinking along those same lines re the forest and the trees etc.
I think that I am past that stage. My wife would be the first to let me know if I was going off the rails. Also women are capable of mid life crisis too. It is painful to watch any kind of significant marital discord due midlife crisis.

Nothing worse than an aging histrionic.

Perhaps the drug companies could come up with something for that. Aging histrionics are plentiful but finding the willing recipients to take the pill could be a problem.....

please do tell about life w/out caffeine.
Lol, well it isn't as bad as you think. I was drinking 5-6 Diet Cokes per day before I quit so I did have a mild headache for about three days. Other than that it was actually much easier than I thought.

Main benefits so far are much improved sleep, I pretty much sleep through the night now whereas I was waking up at least once or twice a night before. That lead to midnight snacks which led to more weight gain...you get the point. Also, surprisingly I seem to have more energy. I've lost about 6 lbs so that might be part of it too.

One other possible benefit is improved heartburn. I hadn't thought about it but I haven't had to take a Prilosec in a week. Much if that is probably also that I changed my diet, more veggies and minimal carbs. Smaller meals too.

I still drink iced tea when we go out to dinner but its been almost a week since I had a Diet Coke. So far, so good.

Real mid-life crises

My wife and budget won't allow a decent crisis.

That's when I quit renewing my Playboy subscription...when the Playmates began being younger than my daughter.

I planned ahead. I have the young wife and two sports cars. Come to think of it though, I am short a spoon or two.

I don't think buying toy's ever had anything to do with age. When I bought a corvette when I was 40 my wife's friends would say I was just going thru a mid-life crisis, but I had a corvette back when I was 21 also. I bought a motorcycle a few years later, same story, but I had motorcycles back when I was a teenager also. It had more to do with the years raising a family that I just didn't feel like spending the money at the time.

Now the plane may be a different story. Its not that I didn't alway's want one, but I realized that if I wanted to learn, and buy a plane, that I couldn't keep putting it off. And no one is saying anything now. Maybe at 55 they think I'm past it.

I really need to buckle down and quit drinking the Diet Cokes. I'm at the 5-6 a day level and don't sleep well at all. Tried before, but got terrible head aches. Plus I just like the taste.

I went from College to a job a held for 25 years. I was 46 when a health scare made me decide I wanted to do something different and I didn't want to be stressed. . June 1st will complete the first 5 years of retirement for me. So far so good

Maybe not a mid-life crisis--just a continual fine-tuning of my life's direction. I have adjusted many, many times as we all do. Still haven't really deviated that far from the original path--trying to emulate my father as closely as possible--and trying to be the man I've always thought he is.

I'm at 4 cups of coffee and one diet coke a day. Been here for awhile which is better than it had been. Sleep sucks most nights and the diet coke makes me fart like a plow horse. I gotta get off of pop completely but that fizz is good stuff.

There is a reason you are still single. It sounds like permanent midlife crisis and you are having a lot of fun. The down side is you have no children but that is obviously not important to you. The other downside of having a young woman by your side is that people do not know if that is your GF or your daughter!
