Why is it that .... Hyundai.

I need a high pressure power steering line for a 2004 Hyundai Sonata.
Dealer= $247.65. Cannot have it for 3 days
Different Vendor= Tomorrow morning, $38.88. Both of them are Genuine OEM parts.

2004? Is it over 100K miles? Check to see if it is covered by warranty.

Just dealt with this with my DD, '06 Altima.

Dealer: $620 "special order" for a fuel pump.

Got one off the Internet, next day, $223... SAME PART

Hyundai? Warranty? ...laughable...

I used to provide a monthly service to a Hyundai Dealer Parts Dept and EVERYTIME I was in there I saw what seemed to be new cars having MAJOR work done.

I.E. timing chains, head gaskets, transmission service etc. etc.

So, after a year of scratching my head I ask my contact (service manager). ...WTF.

He responds, "It's part of their scheduled warranty maintenance." And further explained that if you didn't perform/pay for these big ticket items your fancy 100,000mi warranty would be voided by Hyundai

What a deal

That is so diabolical, schedule maintenance replacement of all wear or breakable items with in the coverage period at owners expense. Makes perfect sense from the dealers POV. And Yet I never saw it coming.

Cheers Richard

This was in 08/09. God willing it has changed in favor of the customer as the other manufacturers have gotten increasingly aggressive with their warranty offers.

Regardless, EVERYTIME in a stealership they're trying to screw you for something.

Last oil change, my "intake manifold was clogged with carbon deposits". It was $480 to "fix" that....

The sick thing, they believe the BS passing their lips....and screw innocent, uninformed people everyday.

Hyundai warranty is only for the original owner. May not be applicable in his case and is actually why I didn't buy a used one

On the four Hyundai's I have owned I have had warrenty work done once for free and a recall twice... never had any regular service done at Hyundai dealership and they didn't check the records when I brought it in.

My 2005 Elantra just ticked over 100K and runs like a top, never given me any trouble, handed it over to daughter as her college car.

YMMV
