That bridge is a handsome structure there Vash, Must be satisfying to have a part in creating such a lasting impact.
Congratulations !
Richard

PS Think that R web was referring to the tunnel in the center of the floor in a 911.

The tunnel is going to eliminate a really cool section of road, but every few years it gets washed out.

That is really cool. You have an interesting job . How long does a project like that take from inception to completion? I remember the shots you took of the tunnel when it was under construction a few years back. Didn't someone try to mountain bike or drive through it before it was done?

Hooray, Can't wait! Opens next weekend I heard?? I always head up the One when visiting the wifes family in HMB and Colma. Last time was a couple months ago and at the time looked to me to be close to being ready.

Well done y'all! I think Cissick (sp?) was involved as well??

Well, the first person to go out there was the geologist who mapped the mountain to create a geologic cross section of the alignment. That would have been in May of 1996. How do I know this? Because that was me! I continued to work on the project right up until last November, measuring the groundwater table. Never ran across Vash, though.

BTW, one aspect of the project really irks me. It took us 5 months to do the first round of field work (geologic mapping, followed by rock coring), then complete the geologic report that would be used to design the tunnel. It then took 5 YEARS to complete the environmental impact report. It's beyond me how that could possibly take so long.

There was a lot more bureaucracy before the tunnel could actually break ground, which took place in the fall of 2007. So... 11.5 years of design and nonsense, 5.5 years of actual construction.

This may well end up being a dumb question, but if a coupla guys showed up at night with cordless professional grade angle grinder/cutters, how long would it take them to get through those welds?

Very cool Cliff! Had I not gone into engineering my 2nd choice would have been construction management, it's hard to beat seeing your creation take form like that.

good question.!! this was an example of a "boss" showing up last minute and MAKING us do it. he seemed to forget the facility is monitored 24/7 with the latest CCTV stuff. nobody can pull out an angle grinder without CHP picking them up in minutes.

i think he just wanted to put in his "2 cents". i just replied with a "how high?" (he said, jump)

at the office now for more last minute BS. hahah..fun gotta go.

Very cool.
Your tunnel has what looks like a "double doorway" (best way my ignorance can describe it), is that for snow and rock slides and such?
