New Spoons for CCW

Picked up these two, will be on my application for my CCW. I have my interview in May, the LCP will end up being my wives carry.

I'd suggest another LCP for yourself. That .45 will get bigger and heavier every time you carry it.

I love the 1911, but that's a lot of gun to haul around.

I just bought an LCP for myself and it took me 2 days to find a dealer here in NYC that had one in stock. He only had one left and luckily I called him before he sold it because no one seems to be able to get any here. There was one other store that had one but he was asking $800 for it talk about price gouging. The new laws here seem to have put even more guns in he hands of citizens as all of the stores are empty.
The LCP is such a great one to carry you hardly know you have it. I also have a Kahr PM9 which I love and as small as it is sometimes it becomes uncomfortable so the LCP seems like it will be the one going everywhere with me. DId you see all of the videos about the barrel getting stuck on the slide? I was wondering if the new ones have addressed this issue.

This all sinds kind of odd to me. What do you mean they will be on your application for your CCW? Do you actually have to list specific guns? And an interview in May? Jeeze, that's a couple of months away. Where do you live? Here in Washington (a "shall issue" state) your local authority must issue a CCW withing 30 days of application or provide a legal reason why they cannot. No interview, and we carry whatever the hell we feel like that day.

You will love the Ruger 1911. I picked one up last year and have found it to be the best 1911 I have ever owned. Certainly not a CCW piece except under a jacket on colder Northwest days, though. You will definitely wind up wanting something smaller. Would that mean you would have to add it to your CCW, or re-apply, or something like that?

Concealed carry Circa 1875

Something like this is what most folks toted around in 1875. Five shot 38 rimfire! Note the 5 notches cut into the left grip. I bet this piece could really tell a story!

+1 on what the others have said. My LCP is my go to carry gun. Get a front pocket holster and you will lose interest in carrying around a 3 pound .45.

Jeff, he sounds like he is in NY. It is interesting, though. Once you have your permit in NY, you pretty much can carry it ANYWHERE.

When Arkansas put their CHCL into effect a number of years ago the serial #'s (up to three) were listed on your permit. Those were the only ones you could exercise the permit with. That provision was removed a long ago. The OP's state may have something similar.

It looks like Ruger may have increased the height of the sights?
The LCP is a very handy piece. A laser sight is a great addition.

That's how the NV permits work. I got one and then they started accepting AZ permits, so I could then carry anything. They just stopped taking AZ permits again, so I'm restricted to what I listed on my NV permit and I don't like carrying those guns anymore.

This is my XDm compact .45 next to my LCP. The XDs is smaller yet. Much smaller than the 1911.

What a strange way to do it. Why on earth would anyone care which gun a lawful CCW holder carries? Wow. That needs to change. Talk about a useless waste of time and resources, recording those serial numbers.

Basically, the law implys you are not a good guy. They want the serial number so that if the firearm is used in a crime, and the firearm is left behind, etc, then then know who did it.

You and I both understand this is idiotic.

NV does it because they say you need to range qualify with each gun you will carry. You're good for all revolvers if you qual with one. For s/a you have to qual with each one. Sadly, they claim the reason they dropped reciprocity with AZ is because AZ doesn't require any range quals anymore. You don't even need a CCW to carry in AZ, but you can now get one with online training only and that has caused a few states to end the reciprocity agreements with AZ. I qual'ed NV with a SIG P239 in .40 and a P226 in .357SIG. I am very capable with both. But I like carrying my Glock 23 these days. That's no longer allowed in NV unless I jump through the hoops to get range qual'ed and have my permit amended. Not worth it.

Here in NY the process is very time consuming. I think they do this in an effort to prevent people from wanting to go through it. First you must send in for a purchase order that takes six weeks to be approved. You must list on the request the specific type of gun you are purchasing. After recieving the approval in the mail you have to take that to Police Headquarters to get the actual purchase order. They give them out between 11AM and 2PM Monday to Thursday. After you get the order you have thirty days to purchase the gun before the order expires and then you must apply over again. After purchasing the gun you have 72 Hours to bring the gun back to Police Headquarters for inspection they do this between 12PM and 2PM Monday to Thursday and not on holidays. The funny thing is that you have 72 Hours total no matter when you purchase it so if you purchase it Thursday afternoon you will be in violation of this rule and they can confiscate your gun. When you bring it to be inspected it must be in a locked box with a trigger lock and ammunition cannot be in the same box. All of the handguns you own must be listed on your permit and I believe the fee is up to about $300 a year for this. Sounds like fun right?

If you want small and 1911 look at the Springfield EMP. I have a lightly customized version in 9mm and it is my every day CCW. Aluminum frame keeps the pistol very light. It's way more accurate than anything with a 3" barrel should be. They offer it in a .40S&W but this one has a steel frame so it weighs a tab bit more. Still nice and small, 1911 ergonomics, and reliable.

That is so outrageous. I would never think of living in such a police state.

Minutes ago I got off the phone with a major gun industry client, who told me a lot of their news is state-specific, so paying for national distribution is not so cost effective. I told him to not forget the fact that gun folks in the good states do care about what's going on in the police states and so nationwide news distribution is a good thing. I said the gun folks in AZ do follow what's going on in CO, MD, NY, etc. And the ones who don't, need to be informed anyway so they can spend their consumer dollars accordingly.

NY pistol permits are administered by the county clerk so the procedure varies by county. In my county, I purchase the pistol, but have to leave it at the store. I have to then take the purchase receipt to the county clerk and they will add it to my permit($5), and give me a coupon to give to the seller. I can then pick up my purchase.
I could also get a pre-purchase coupon that allows me to pick up the purchase at the time of sale, then go to the county clerk. The pre-purchase coupon is good for 72 hours. This is good if you are purchasing at a gun show, etc.
